WEEK 1–RAHAB

Bob Merritt Oct. 25/26, 2014

INTRODUCTION Nobody is beyond the reach of God’s forgiveness, and Rahab’s story tells of a God who loves all people regardless of their lifestyle, beliefs, or orientation. Just like Rahab, no matter who you are or what you’ve done, God is for you.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Even in Rahab’s sin, God never gave up on her. She was an underdog, but that wasn’t an obstacle for God. When have you felt like an underdog? 2. Pastor Bob said, “God is for you, but to break free from underdog status, you have to stand for God.” Where do you need to take a stand for God? 3. Rahab was able to receive God’s forgiveness, and as she also forgave herself, the guilt of her past began to fall away. Where do you need to experience God’s grace and forgive yourself? Where do you need to forgive someone else? 4. Rahab lived in a city that faced annihilation, and with nowhere to go, she did the only thing she could do and asked for help. That 4-letter word is sometimes the hardest to say, but we have a God who has unlimited power. Where do you need to ask for His help today? How can you help others in need?

JOIN THE CONVERSATION God is the God of the underdog, and he helps us rise above the ordinary. How has God helped you rise above the ordinary? Share your story using #MyUnderdogStory on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, or at eaglebrookchurch.com/ onestory.

COMMIT TO MEMORY What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31

KEY SCRIPTURE JOSHUA 2:15

The place in Jericho where Rahab lived was part of the city wall.

JOSHUA 2:1

Joshua said “Scout out the land on the other side of the Jordan River, around Jericho.” So the two men set out and came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there that night.

JOSHUA 2:11

For the Lord your God is God of heaven and earth.

NOTES

JOSHUA 2:12, 14

“Swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to me because I have shown kindness to you.” The spies replied, “If you don’t betray us, we will keep our promise to spare you when the Lord gives us this land.”

JOSHUA 6:24-25

The Israelites destroyed the city and everyone in it, but they spared Rahab the prostitute because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies–and she lives among the Israelites to this day.
