DISCUSSION GUIDE

Week 4 • Dec. 15/16, 2012 • We Live (Jason Anderson)

INTRODUCTION John 3:16 is a life-changing verse. We are promised that God loved and gave, and we can believe and live. When we really look at this verse, not just the commercial and society use of it, we realize that we are responsible for fifty percent of the work in this promise. This week, we look at the ultimate decision to join God in eternal life and the opportunity to live life to the full.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Describe a time when you made a bad decision and knew it at that moment. How about when you knew after the fact? 2. Have someone read Matthew 25:31-46. What did you learn about Heaven and Hell as a child? What images do you have of both? Why do you think Jesus used two thirds of his parables to teach about resurrection and afterlife? 3. Revelation 21:27 heeds a strong warning to those who haven’t made a decision to accept eternal life that Jesus offers. Have you ever given advice to someone and it has been ignored? Have you ignored the advice of others and regretted it? 4. Read Ezekiel 33:11. What comfort do you gain knowing that God is for us, and that he takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked? Read John 10:10. In what ways can we live life to the full right now because of Jesus? Share examples or experiences when you have personally experienced living life to the full. 5. Jason described a story where the Coast Guard rescued a boat that was drifting, searching for new life and getting lost. Share times in life when you have drifted. How can you encourage others to be rescued and not allow themselves to drift? 6. When faced with the decision to drift or be rescued, what have you done? What is your faith story?

THINK ABOUT IT Jason said, “Jesus wants us to have life. Not just a ‘go through the motions’ kind of life, but life to the full.” Are there any decisions you are currently making that are keeping you from this kind of life? Is there something keeping you from fully accepting the gift of salvation? This week, identify things that may be causing you to drift through life on your own.

COMMIT TO MEMORY “God so loved this world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
