Do You Want To Get Well?

Key Scriptures

ICE BREAKER

Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is Bathesda and which is surrounding by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie – the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty with years. When Jesus aw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?’ “Sir,” the invalid replied, ‘I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.(John 5:1-9)

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:36)

What is your favorite movie?

Start thinking. Ask questions to get your group thinking. •

What do you think the atmosphere was like around the pool of Bathesda?

Read John 5:1-9. What stands out to you about this confrontation? Do you think that the man whom Jesus healed was expecting a miracle to happen in his life?

Pastor Stephen encouraged us on Sunday night to evaluate our lives and be honest about any areas where we are experience brokenness. Have you ever experienced brokenness in your own life? If so, and you feel comfortable, tell how that brokenness has affected your life.

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness. •

Not experiencing the ‘abundant life’ that Jesus has for us (John 10:10) means that we are truly missing out on life. Do you feel like you are experiencing the ‘abundant life’ that Jesus offers?

If not, what area would you like to experience the healing that only Jesus can give?

Read Matthew 9:36. Do you truly believe that Jesus has compassion on you? Why or Why Not?

Do you believe that Jesus WANTS to heal you? If no, why not?

What, if anything, is preventing you from receiving the healing (in your areas of brokenness) that Jesus offers? (Maybe doubt, backsliding, fear of change, etc..)

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power. •

Jesus, thank you for offering to heal us and the broken areas of our lives. Thank you for coming to us, where we are, and offering to change our lives for the better. Help us to say ‘yes’ to you and receive the healing that you offer. We look forward to experiencing the full life you offer! Amen.
