Don’t Try to Play God Daniel 8:1-27 What are the four world empires we’ve talked about, in chronological order? 1. The Babylonian Empire 2. The Medo-Persian Empire 3. The Greek Empire 4. The Roman Empire In Daniel’s vision in chapter 8, we’re dealing with empires #2 and #3. The “ram” represents the Medo-Persian Empire. The “goat” represents the Greek Empire (v. 20-21) The two horns of the ram are the combination of Media and Persia. One horn is larger because Persia was more significant than Media. The large horn between the goat’s eyes (v. 21) is the first king of the Greek Empire: Alexander the Great. How was the large horn, Alexander the Great, broken? (listen to Pep’s story)

The Glorious Land speaks of Israel. NOTE: The “little horn” in chapter 8 is a prototype of the end-time antichrist. The “little horn” was the 8th king of the Seleucid dynasty named Antiochus Epiphanes. Antiochus Epiphanes means “God manifested,” which was the name he gave himself. When things are falling apart in our lives, what is the one thing we all want to know? How long? How long was the repression of Jewish worship in the temple? (v.14)
