No one comes to the Father except through me.” If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not pracYce the truth. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God of truth, you have called us out of darkness to walk faithfully in the light of your word and to persevere in confessing the truth revealed in Jesus. But we are o5en a people who o5en choose the darkness of falsehood rather than the light of truth. We reject what you have clearly revealed without any good reasons. We too easily believe lies about you and about ourselves: that Jesus cannot save, that you will not forgive, that your presence and power are not sufficient, that persevering in faith is not worth the effort and struggle. Or we know and profess truth about you without abiding in the truth in ac8on: by ignoring truth that makes inconvenient demands, by denying the truth to protect ourselves, by twis8ng the truth for our own gain. Lord, have mercy on us. (silent prayers of confession)

Gracious Father, please forgive us for turning away from the truth you have given us and rescue us from believing and living in the darkness of lies and falsehood. Fix our eyes firmly on Jesus and lead us by your Spirit so that we will walk in the truth with integrity and persevere in trusYng and confessing you always, through Jesus Christ your Son.

We will not hold the elements and wait to eat unYl all have been served. Prayer for those searching: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Help me to be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent and convincing and that leads to the life you promise. Amen. Prayer of new belief: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared believe, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen.
