Flight to Istanbul. Our friendly, competent, English-speaking tour guides will be there to meet us at the airport and accompany us to the coaches for the transfer to our hotel, where we will be served a refreshing welcome drink. We will spend the night in Istanbul.

Day 2: Highlights of Istanbul, 2010 European Capital of Culture (UNESCO World Heritage Site) First we will start tour at Hippodrome Square, taking in the old town (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the monuments of the Roman and Osman epochs as well as the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column and the German Fountain. Then we will move on to the Blue Mosque, the jewel of Osman architecture, with its wealth of blue and white tiles. Next, we will explore Topkapı Palace which for centuries was the seat of residence and government of the sultans. Finally, we will visit the amazing Hagia Sophia, once the biggest church of late antiquity and now a museum. Overnight stay in Istanbul.

Blue Mosque, Istanbul

Day 3: Istanbul – Ankara After breakfast, you will have the option of taking an unforgettable boat trip from Europe to Asia across the Bosporus, or alternatively take some free time. Then after the midday break, we will travel to the national capital of Ankara – a city with origins extending back to the time of Phrygian settlements. We will take a city tour to explore the characteristic monumental buildings of Atatürk’s modern heritage such as the parliament building, the embassies and the mausoleum. Overnight stay in Ankara.

Mosque, Ankara

Day 4: Ankara – Cappadocia In the morning, we will visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations which houses the greatest collection of the Anatolian cultures, ranging from the Early Bronze Age up to the present day. Then we will take a trip to the remains of the Temple of Augustus, known as the “Monumentum Ancyranum”. After this, we will travel onward through the steppe region of the Anatolian high plateau, passing the town of Kirikkale and into the Central Anatolian landscape of Cappadocia. Once we have arrived, we will set off on an extensive tour of discovery through a strange and fascinating moonlike landscape. Overnight stay in the Cappadocia region.

Love Valley, Cappadocia

Day 5: Cappadocia – Göreme – Cavusin (UNESCO World Heritage Site) The day begins with a visit to the unique rock formations and cave churches of the Göreme open-air museum (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Then we can look forward to a short walk in the Valley of the Monks, followed by a photo break in Dervent Valley with its bizarre natural rock sculptures. We will also take an easy walk in the Valley of Love. In a traditional carpetweaving factory we will experience the fascinating, centuries-old craft of carpet-making. You will be enthralled by the variety, craftsmanship and rich colours of the hand-woven carpets. The day will end with a stop at the idyllic village of Cavusin. Overnight stay in the Cappadocia region.

Uchisar, Cappadocia

Day 6: Cappadocia – Konya (UNESCO World Heritage Site) We will start the day by travelling to Konya. En route, we will take a break, in a medieval caravanserai. Then we will journey on to Konya, the antique Ikonium, and visit the monastery of the dancing dervishes, whose ceremony was declared a UNESCO Intangible World Heritage in 2008. It was from here that the teachings of the mystic Mevlana Cellaleddin, the founder of the order, spread out into the world. After this, our journey will continue through the breathtaking Taurus Mountains to the Mediterranean coast and on to Antalya. Overnight stay in the Antalya region.
