The Pyramid of Giving will force you to focus on the giving of the top ten percent of your organization.
•
The Pyramid of Giving is Descriptive: it reflects the reality that a minority provide a majority of a congregation’s budget.
•
The Pyramid of Giving is Prescriptive: it reflects the fact that in a major gift campaign or capital campaign the top ten percent of the donors will provide between sixty and ninety percent of the dollars.
•
The Pyramid of Giving is Diagnostic: (1) It enables you to draw a profile as to what generosity looks like in your institution. (2) It allows you to analyze the state of giving in your organization and may alert you to issues you need to address such as age of donors, dependence on a few very large donors, the lack of committed donors
Should the pastor know who gives what? YES, IF: (1) Giving is a spiritual practice, a part of discipleship. (2) The practice of pastoral care includes care for the whole person. (3) Money is openly talked about in the church. (4) A Church models “best practices” by personally saying “Thank You!”
