Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 10 minutes) Welcome kids and spend time engaging in conversation and catching up. Get ready to experience today’s Bible Truth. Before kids arrive, take a few moments to pray for them. As we get into the holiday season, schedules get busy and crunched with a lot of fun and family-focused activities. Pray that your group of students will have an amazing holiday season connecting with family and friends and that in the midst of all of the festivities, they’ll recognize opportunities to give to those in need around them, not missing opportunities to be used by God to help others. 9:00 & 11:30 Just For Fun Made to Connect: an activity that invites kids to share with others and build on their understanding

What You Need: Wrapping paper, markers What You Do: • Spread out the sheet of wrapping paper and give each person a marker. • Ask: o What are some crazy, unusual, creative, odd, random, even messy (but not inappropriate) items you can come up with that could be used to wrap a gift? • Tell students to write them on the wrapping paper and see how many they can come up with. (Examples: a sock, aluminum foil, lint, frosting) • As they write, ask them what they would do if they ever received a gift wrapped in one of the ways they’ve mentioned. • If you have extra time: o Name gifts you’ve given or received that fall into the following categories: § Weirdest § Biggest § Smallest § Most pieces § Funniest § First one to go back to the store the day after Christmas

10:15 Get Your Head in the Game Made to Play: an activity that encourages learning through following guidelines and working as a group

What You Need: Gift bows; 1 for every two kids What You Do: • Let students choose a partner and stand facing each other about 3 feet apart. • Place a bow on the floor in between partners at an equal distance from each of them. • Explain that you will call out an action for them to follow such as grab your head, grab your ears, grab your toes, and so forth. o When you say, “grab the bow,” the partner who gets the bow first is the winner of that round. o As you call out the actions, begin slowly then get faster. o After each round, let winners form new partners and play again until there is one final champion. • Repeat as time allows. Wrap Up and Say: “In today’s Bible Truth, we’ll hear about man who missed his chance to do something he should have done. It wasn’t a chance to grab a bow. It was something far more important.” Lead your group to the Large Group area.

Bible: Communicating God’s Truth in Engaging Ways (Large Group, 30 minutes) Engage kids’ hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible Truth, worship, and prayer experience in a Large Group setting. SFX: Play high-energy music as kids enter. CG: 10-second countdown CG: Theme Slide Host enters. Welcome Host has lots of energy as he or she welcomes everyone to The Base. Host is relatable and inviting. Host can talk about something that happened culturally throughout the week like a big sports game, movie opening (The Last Jedi – December 15), a viral video on YouTube, etc. (NOTE: As this is December, Christmas break is on the kids’ minds. Talk about anticipating the holiday break) Host tells them how excited he or she is that they’re there and briefly runs through what they can expect. This is especially helpful for first-time guests to make them feel like they know what’s happening. Host transitions to Worship. HOST: “Hey, everybody! I love that we are all here together. Help me welcome the Power Praise team in this morning.” WORSHIP SFX: “Hosanna Rock” SFX: Go Tell It” SFX: “Down to Earth” Power Praise team exits as Host retakes the stage. Host transitions to the opening game. Opener HOST: “Let’s get this party going!

Two volunteers roll out giant plastic-wrap balls. HOST: “WOW! Would you look at those!? Have you ever seen one of these before? These are superfantastic-candy-filled-Christmas-prize-balls! Two teams will get the chance to rip into these and capture as much candy as possible in two minutes! Who wants to play? (Get response.) Awesome! I need two teams with one Small Group Leader and one student!” Host chooses two teams of two and has them come to the stage. Host introduces them to the rest of the crowd. HOST: (To volunteers) Alright, the team that uncovers the most in two minutes will not only win everything you uncover, but you will also win a prize for your group from the Wall o’ Presents. Got it? Good! On your mark, get set, GO! Optional CG: 2-minute Countdown Video After two minutes. Host calls time and counts the amount of candy each team uncovered. HOST: “We have a winner! (To winners) You get to choose a prize from our Wall o’ Presents! And because I’m feeling generous, even our team that didn't uncover as much candy can keep whatever they found and bring it back to their group!” Host gives prizes, dismisses kids back to their seats. Now, sit quietly and take in this lovely video with today’s Bible Lesson. Host joins the audience. INTRODUCTION CG: 252 Movie LANDING COMMUNICATOR: “So I’m sure we all know that giving is important. The question today is why? CG: Key Question Slide “Why is it important to give? This is something that might take some time to figure out, but that’s what so great about Small Group. These are people who can you find out some answers about all sorts of things. Before you head out, let’s pray.” Communicator leads group in a prayer related to what they just heard. After prayer, Communicator takes up the offering and dismisses kids to Small Group. SFX: Play high-energy music as the kids exit.

Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Create a safe place to connect and learn how the Bible Truth applies to real life experiences, through interactive activities and discussion questions. 9:00 & 11:30 Verses to Take with You [Hear from God | Memory Verse Activity] Made to Play: an activity that encourages learning through following guidelines and working as a group

What You Need: Bibles What You Do: • Tell the students that after Jesus told the parable, He went on to teach more about money and the things we treasure. • Invite someone to read aloud the verses that follow today’s Bible Truth: Luke 12:33-34. • Form teams of three or more then challenge the students to put Luke 12:34 to the tune of “Jingle Bells” (or another Christmas song of their choice) then sing their songs for one another. • When students have sung their songs, Ask: o How can you know if your treasure is in heaven or on earth? o How can a person your age follow this verse? o Do you know anyone who follows this verse well? What do they do to live it out? o Have you ever missed a chance to give? If life isn’t “made up of how much a person has,” what is it made up of? Is it wrong to have a lot of stuff? Why or why not? Why is it important to give to others? What are some reasons why we might miss our chance to give? Name some dangers that come with having a lot of money, possessions, or success.

Name some benefits that come with being generous—not just at Christmas but all the time.

Pray and Dismiss (5 minutes) [Pray to God | Prayer Activity] Made to Connect: an activity that invites kids to share with others and build on their understanding

What You Need: Blank ornaments and Christmas tree from week 1 What You Do: • Gather around (or bring out) the “Giving Tree.” • Follow up with the students who added ornaments last week. Allow them to share how God helped them to be generous. Pro Tip: There is great value in having preteens share with one another about the things they see God doing in and around them. The story of a peer who is following Jesus will go a long way in challenging and encouraging other students to do the same. • • •

Ask your group if they’ve made a “Wish List” of things they wanted for Christmas. If so, let them share some of the gifts they’ve asked for and received. Give everyone a pen and one of the “Giving Tree Ornaments.” Tell them to imagine that God has a “Wish List” of ways He’d like them to show generosity this week. o What might be on His list? o Let them write it on one side of their ornament then put their names on the back. Use markers to color the ornament if desired/needed. Before adding the ornaments to the tree, come together for prayer. o If you think your students would be comfortable enough doing this, pair them up and let them pray for each other to not miss their chance to give this week. Send them off with the following prayer:

Dear Jesus, we want generosity to be more than just something we talked about today. We don’t want to miss our chances to give the way the rich man did in the parable You told. We need Your help to put others ahead of ourselves—especially at Christmas when it’s easy to get wrapped up in getting instead of giving. We want to be true givers like You are. We love you. In Your name, amen. Pass out Parent CUE cards as adults arrive for pick-up.
