BIBLE PROPHECY Acts 13:26-27 Matthew 22:29 Throughout the N. T. the scriptures make it very clear that bible prophecy has been somewhat of a mystery to every generation. It matters little if people are bible believers, Christian leaders, O. T. priest, Sadducee or Pharisee for some reason bible prophecy truth is elusive. EXCUSES II Timothy 2:15 - (Too difficult to understand) Because the bible is the only place to get an accurate forecast of our future and enable us to prepare for what is to come we need to stop being willingly ignorant of bible prophecy. We need to study God's word. John 14:6; 17:17 - (Leads to speculation) This has obviously been the case for many years and has lead to crazy books, movies and predictions. But for the Christian the truth is in the scriptures. If we are Spirit filled and Spirit led, we can know “the mind of Christ” by comparing scripture with scripture. THE NEED TO UNDERSTAND PROPHECY Dan. 12; Mat. 24 & 25; Rev. 1:19 The major portion of the bible consists of prophecy. 17 of the O. T. writers wrote mostly of prophecy. All N. T. writers and books contain bible prophecy. If we neglect the study and understanding of prophecy we cannot understand the bible nor teach others the bible. II Timothy 2:15 The study of bible prophecy proves that God's word must be “rightly divided” in order to understand His ongoing program. The mysteries of the N. T. are recorded in the O. T. The O. T. is revealed and understood within the pages of the N. T. Luke 24:25-27; John 5:37-39 Jesus sets His seal of authenticity on the O. T. prophetic scriptures. Notice He says all three times in Luke 24:25-27. We should study and understand prophecy because the O. T. prophecies are full of Jesus Christ and we can know His entire program of future events! Is. 7:14; 40:3; 53; Mi. 5:2; Zech. 11:12-13 These prophecies within the O. T. tell of John the Baptist , of Jesus being born of a virgin, of Christ's birth place, that he would be our sin bearer, that he would be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver. These fulfilled prophecies confirm the inspiration and accuracy of the bible. They also give us reason to believe that all the prophecy of the future will be fulfilled. Am. 3:7; Jn. 15: 14-17; Rm. 11:25; I Thes. 4:13-18 God has promised that His people can know what is going to happen in the future. Only by studying the prophecies can we know what he is doing. THE BLESSINGS OF UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY II Timothy 3:1-13 Only as we study and understand prophetic truth from the bible can we be safeguarded against the perils and sins of these last days. The world, the flesh and the devil continue to fight against us every day. Rm. 15:4; I Cor. 10:11 By learning the history and the prophecies of the O. T. we can be influenced to stay the course and build our character and conduct in such a manor that will please our Lord. Ez. 33:7-9; II Thes. 1:7-9 God has given us the Holy Spirit in order that we might understand the bible and the prophecies that not only pertain to us as believers but also the terrors that wait for the lost. Revelation 1:3; 22:7 There is a guaranteed special blessing to those who will read and study God's prophetic truth found in this particular book.
