Guest Speaker Calendar 1. Our guest speaker apologised at the last moment. Bruce spoke about his daughter, Trudy a recent speaker about Red Cross. Trudy had just returned from two weeks in Kaikoura. She was asked to fly immediately to help, Palmerston North to Christchurch, Cessna to Kaikoura to be told she was managing the Red Cross team. 2. Terry introduced Peter, a stand in speaker recently returned from Spain, Portugal and Italy. They had researched a private tour via “The Lonely Planet” guide and other trip advice app’s travelling via Singapore Airlines, collecting a Eurolease wagon at Barcelona directed by Susie their GPS. For those who had travelled there before he took us for a trip down memory lane. For those untravelled, he titillated the travel bug. Barcelona Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia Cathedral still being built, the Ramblas where families walked in the cool of the evening before dinner (a lost western art), Tarragona and it’s amphitheatre, Saragosa, Pamplona where the Bulls run, St Sebastian (Michelin Star restaurants closed), Salamanca, Burgos. Portugal: Lisbon, Coimbra, Evora, taste the port and listen to fado music. Food and drink plentiful and the prices are cheaper. Back to Gibraltar, Seville (the oranges are sour), Malaga on the Costa de Sol, Cordoba and the grand mosque (with a cathedral inside), Toledo, Madrid and the Prado Gallery, so many great masters you are over surfeited with art. Moorish occupation underlines Spanish History, mosques, mosaics, architecture and gardens. Then a week in Italy, the Cinque Terre and Milan. Thanks Peter. You were enthused. But it is good to have you safely home.
