CASE STUDY Subsea7 - Subsea Interface Plate and Valve Isolation Panels

Background The Premier Oil Catcher Area Field Development consists of the Catcher, Varadero and Burgman fields located in the UK Central North Sea which are tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). In 2014 Subsea7 was awarded the engineering, procurement and installation (EPI) contract for the construction of subsea facilities. This contract covered the supply & installation of three pipeline bundles, a riser system for the FPSO unit and a gas export/import pipeline.

Customer Requirement As part of their scope Subsea 7 required interface plate and valve isolation panels for the Catcher, Varadero and Burgman towhead manifolds. This scope had traditionally been supplied through the sub-contracted manifold / riser base fabricator however Subsea7 were looking at different approaches to achieve significant cost savings across the project. A mix of panels were required, as interface connection points between the Tube Bundle Systems and the Manifold & Riser Base Towheads as well as between the Manifolds and the Drill Centre Production & Water Injection lines.

Hydrasun Solution Hydrasun approached Subsea 7 and advised that they had the necessary technical competence and experience in relation to the individual components and the track record in the assembly and manufacturing of bespoke panels to undertake the work. Moreover through a direct contractual relationship with Subsea 7 they could deliver significant cost savings. Hydrasun would project manage the procurement, manufacturing, flushing and testing of a total of 51 interface plate and valve isolation panels. The panels incorporated a range of small bore valves, tube stubs and MSCM couplers which would then be connected via flexible hose assemblies to a 3rd party supplied control system.
