As a community of believers in Jesus Christ, we are all called to contribute to our shared ministry as a church.

FIRST PRES

Stewardship is much more than a financial exercise; it is important spiritual work. In preparing to make your financial commitment, be encouraged to:

name

• Study the Bible passages on the back page of this brochure • Pray about the heart and habit of your giving • Step away from a life directed by self-sufficiency and into a life of generosity rooted in the blessing of God • Have confidence that God will take what is given and multiply it to do His work through the ministry and mission of First Pres.

PASSAGES FOR STUDY & PRAYER Be defined by your generosity One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” Proverbs 11: 24-25

SOW GENEROUSLY

Share Jesus’ enthusiasm about generosity Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21: 1-4

Set a generous example And now I commit you to God and to the message of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified. I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands have provided for my needs and for those who were with me. In every way I’ve shown you that by laboring like this, it is necessary to help the weak and to keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus, for He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20: 32-35

Follow Christ’s example Paul encourages us to examine ourselves to see whether we’re in the faith (Cor. 13:5). One important way we do that is by taking stock in whether our lives are beginning to take on the selfsacrificial and cruciform nature of Jesus. We’ll give of ourselves and our resources. 1 John 2: 5-6

FIRST PRES BOULDER My giving commitment to God’s work through the ministries of First Pres in 2017 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9: 6-8
