We will live out the Gospel by connecting people to Christ,

What is ONE by ONE? The One by One Initiative is a journey of growing our faith and generosity. For two years, many at Calvary have committed to give sacrificially in order to put our mission into action – living out the Gospel by connecting people to Christ, community and their calling. All giving is now credited to the ONE Fund (no separate designations except for personal sponsorships). Specific goals and more details about the Initiative can be found at onefund.calvarysc.org. NOVEMBER 2015

God-stories Do you know what I love about Adopt-A-Family? The maybes.

Maybe a connection made will last a lifetime, or be a true lifeline.

One year my Life Group adopted a family, a single mother and three sons. After our first delivery I asked if I could call her a few days later. That led to a year of phone calls, emails and walks during a very difficult time for her. When Christmas came the next year we happily adopted them again.

Maybe I learn that AAF is not about the them but me, learning uncommon giving out of joyful obedience not based on expectation of what will happen after the gift. Maybe it’s about children learning how to serve and God capturing their hearts with a compassion that lasts a lifetime.

Having visited their trailer in desperate need of repair, our group had visions of fixing many things and building relationships even further. But our friend did not follow through on any of that. What she did follow through on were heartfelt conversations each time I called. She never initiated, but I never doubted God’s prompts to reach out to her. After that second year together she fell out of touch.

I don’t know what the maybes are but I love thinking about them. His maybes are (thankfully!) always bigger than anything I can imagine.

So what about the maybes? The maybes lie in all of the possibilities of what God is doing through our giving to Adopt-A-Family (AAF) participants - giving that is beyond many of their expectations. Maybe they see in real, concrete ways that not only does God love them, but He loves them extravagantly. Maybe God will bring this experience back to them in the exact timing they need it.

~ Laura Kilareski, a Calvary Harvest Fields family member seeking to live a life without walls. Do you know someone who would like to be adopted OR do you want to adopt a family? Email [email protected]
