Fall Family Festival

Don’t forget that the ECDC Fall Family Festival is this Saturday from 3-6 p.m. Come out and support our preschool!

Celebrate healthy living Find out how to live a healthy life at this Nov. 12 event that focuses on food, exercise, and fun.

Taking family photos is just one of the great things about our annual Pumpkin Patch. Proceeds from the sale of pumpkins allow our high school seniors to travel to Jamaica at spring break to be in ministry with churches, schools, and children there. Our students help repair facilities, bring much-needed supplies, and interact with the children through Vacation Bible School and sports.

he Pathfinders Sunday School class invites you to join them for a threesession study on Methodism by retired minister Dr. Mark Adams. He will be speaking on John Wesley, American Methodism, and United Methodist Doctrine and Polity. They will meet Oct. 23 and Nov. 6 and 13 in E225 at 9:45 a.m. On Oct. 30 they will have their Fifth Sunday Brunch. You are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to hear a great teacher speak on John Wesley and the United Methodist Church.

Dear Friends in Christ, This past Sunday in our traditional woreach of us to do. I would like to extend the challenge to the rest of our St. Peter’s membership. Here it is: 1) Each morning when you wake up, before you get up and going for your day, say this prayer: God help me do something today that will connect someone with your love. 2) During the day, look for the ways in which God is presenting you the opportunity

Dr. Pat Sparks, Senior Pastor

to connect someone with God’s love. 3) At the end of the day, pray for those you tried to connect with God’s love. If we will make a habit of doing this for one week, it may become a daily habit for the rest of our lives. And if we make this a daily habit, we will make a significant difference in Katy and beyond. Remember, this can have an eternal effect on someone’s life. Let me know how you do with this challenge. I’d love to hear about what

E

ach week at 7:45 a.m., two trailers roll in to the Cinco Ranch High School parking lot where a team of 14 dedicated volunteers take time out of their busy schedules to transform the cafeteria into a sanctuary for our West Campus worship each week. One crew takes about an hour and a half to set up the main worship area. Their tasks include setting up the frames and black draping, the audio system, stage lighting, and seemingly miles of cords that are needed to connect every piece of equipment. They also set up the information tables, a coffee spot, and signs inside and outside the building. Another crew takes about an hour to set up the children’s ministry hall. This includes putting out a foam floor, rugs, TV stations, rocking chairs, children’s toys, and check-in stations. At the conclusion of the worship service, both teams spend another hour tearing it all down, placing everything neatly in containers on wheels, and loading them back on the trailers where the equipment can all be stored for another week. It is an amazing process to watch! The West Campus has a team of 50 volunteers who take turns preparing the high school space for worship. These volunteers are using their time and talents to connect the world with God’s love through this important work. If you would like to be a part of this incredible team, contact Tim Lovell at [email protected].

Habitat for Humanity St. Peter’s participated in the dedication of the second and final Habitat for Humanity home in the Great Elms area in Cypress. The Prayer Quilt Ministry donated quilts to both homeowners, who were very grateful for the gift. Thanks to the St. Peter’s congregation for the donation of funds that made home ownership possible for these two families. We were blessed to have a dedicated group of people who helped build these homes during some of the hottest months of the year.

Early Response Training St. Peter’s sponsored district-wide Early Response Training on Oct. 8 with 18 participants from area churches in attendance. These certified individuals are now allowed into disaster areas once first responders complete their initial life-saving efforts. There will be another opportunity to receive training on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church. To sign up, e-mail [email protected].

Katy Thanksgiving Feast

6

Every year, St. Peter’s joins with several local churches and ministries to host a Thanksgiving meal for those who might not otherwise have one. At the Feast, we also will offer our guests needed items. We will be collecting new jackets and winter coats in October and non-perishable food items and diapers and wipes in November. Please visit stpkaty.org for more detailed information on this and ways you will be able to serve on Thanksgiving Day. Contact Kat Moore at [email protected] if you have questions.

Recently our children’s Sunday School, SPLASH, and SPLISH SPLASH learned about our Re/Member Our Future capital campaign. Through photos, the children learned how St. Peter’s grew, starting as a plot of empty land and then a building and then additions to that building. They also saw a picture of the land we have purchased for the West Campus as we grow out into the west Katy area. The children made gratitude cards and decorated “banks” to collect money.
