Worship News: “Surprise!”
Good Friday Psalm 22 Of all things--to be forsaken! To be abandoned, left alone and without anyone caring for us. To be forsaken is to believe that no one cares whether we live or die. This is what makes this cry of Christ from the cross so heartrending. Jesus knows first-hand what it means to be forsaken. This is a cry of utter hopelessness, of complete despair, of a person who believes that no one does, or could care. But there is some solace in this cry from the cross. When we find ourselves utterly forsaken (as we think) what we can know is this: God knows. God in Christ Jesus knows what it means to be forsaken, for he has been forsaken for our sake. And because of this, we can never be truly forsaken, for the forsaken One is always with us. We can only pray, Lord, that you will be ever with us and give us always a sense of your presence with us. Amen.
