FINDING HOPE Pastor Dennis Clanton Woodland Church Good Friday, March 30, 2018 “Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fill us with a living hope, and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people.” (1 Peter 1:3-4a, GN) “As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.” (Galatians 6:14, NLT) “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.” (Hebrews 12:2-4, NLT) 1. SO MY SINS COULD BE FORGIVEN. “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14) “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” (Ephesians 1:7, NLT) “The blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) “He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.” (Romans 4:25, NLT) 2. SO I COULD BE HEALED. “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.” (1 Peter 2:24, NLT)

a. Repentance - Dead to sin. “He will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21) b. Righteousness - Live for what is right. “Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight something the law of Moses could never do.” (Acts 13:39) c. Healing for our wholeness - By his wounds you are healed. “He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we cold be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” (Isaiah 53:5, NLT) “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.” (Matthew 9:35, NLT) 3. SO THAT I CAN LIVE FREE! “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.” (Romans 6:6-9, NLT) “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer i who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, NLT) “It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from - if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.” (Acts 10:35, Message) “To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12 “Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.” (Acts 3:19, NLT)
