First Presbyterian Church Job Description Position: Director of Student Ministry Purpose: Foster a late-teen and young adult community of faith that is included and incorporated into all possible aspects of the church. Reports to: Pastor of Spiritual Formation Supervises: Volunteers and occasionally interns Interpersonal Relations: Work collaboratively and collegially with all staff. Develop relationships with youth of the church to accomplish missions. Physical Requirements: Able to physically participate in youth activities in a leadership capacity. Availability for Work: Incumbent is expected to work approximately 40 hours per week including evening, weekend and holiday hours as needed to fulfill job responsibilities. Essential Functions • Lead, assist and nurture young people in this community to develop strategies for the formation of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit into their lives. • Locate or design resources that sustain a Christ-centered community of young people that reaches out and builds relationships with students of the city of Lancaster that are not presently part of the congregation. • Advocate for students and parents of the church. • Teach adults of the church how to have relationships with young people. • Seek to integrate students into the life of the church so that they are respected, understood and may easily participate in the spiritual nurture of the rest of the church. • Facilitate activities and programs that encourage, challenge and nurture the imaginations, faith and active engagement in life of any student that comes within reach of our church. • Participate in Worship services (occasional), and teach in classroom settings as needed, primarily with youth and parents. • Develop and lead a team of youth leaders and equip this team to communicate and nurture a youth-aged community in a coherent experience of spiritual growth, respect and imaginative fun. • Visit young people of the congregation at home, in the hospital, etc. • Participate in personal counseling in a pastoral context as appropriate, worship experiences of the church in any circumstance as requested, staff work of exploring best designs for the life and growth of the congregation. Knowledge/Skill/Ability: Minimum BS/BA degree with knowledge and practice of theology and ministry vision compatible with the Reformed tradition of the Presbyterian church in its contemporary form.

First Presbyterian Church Job Description Knowledge and broad understanding of resources available to young adult Christians who seek to grow in faith in Jesus Christ. Ability to demonstrate a passion for Christians to be growing disciples of Jesus Christ. Skilled communicator (written and verbal), adept at all forms of media available to young adults. Knowledge of congregational systems. Work Environment: City-based church over 275 years old; many young adults served live in suburban areas surrounding the city. Occasional travel (domestic and international) to accompany youth on mission trips.
