I’m not much of a Star Trek fan, but Leonard Nimoy the actor who played Dr. Spock was one of my favorites. When he died recently they shared a quote from him that struck a chord with me. He said, “Life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved; except in memory.” The beautiful gardens of last year are just good memories. Yet the yards are filled again with gardeners who live in the hope that their work this spring will someday in the future bring a great harvest of beauty or produce. The church is like a garden. It takes seeds of prayer, faithful planning, and hopeful effort before a harvest can be realized. The writer of Galatians 6:9 put it this way: “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” So we continue to plant seeds even when we know it will be years down the road before the harvest (whatever it may be) will be realized. A number of years ago, I went through a “Japanese garden phase” in my life. I was impressed with how the original builders of these gardens worked diligently all their lives, even while knowing the full effect of their hard work wouldn’t be complete until after their death. This impressed me, because they were working for a future generation of people that they didn’t know and would never meet. In many ways, this is our motivation as a church. We work thoughtfully, prayerfully and hopefully not just for today and the people around us, but that future generations may know Christ and worship HIM. Jesus put it this way: “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do it for me.” Please pray for the work of Fellowship and the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod of the ELCA as each of us work on our Strategic Planning Processes. Please pray for Pastor Alvaro and “Comunidad de Esperanza” the Latino mission start here in Tulsa. Please open yourself to use your time, talents and possessions for the good of others and the generations to come. It is our time to work the garden… and if we are faithful God will bring the harvest! Pastor Alan

HERE COMES THE BAND!!
And not just any band….it’s the Wartburg College Band Wind Ensemble! FLC member, son of the congregation, Stephen Klaassen & fellow former Union Drumline percussionist Grant Gage are both members of this outstanding group. When: Sunday evening 19 April, 7 PM in our church sanctuary They are under the direction of Dr. Craig Hancock and the band has been celebrated around the world for their high standard of excellence. As the premiere auditioned concert band at Wartburg, the 56-member Wind Ensemble tours each spring & travels internationally every three years. The group has recently performed at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, toured Europe, China, and Japan during the college’s one-month May term. To understand more about the significance of music & the college, its namesake is the famous WARTBURG CASTLE well known in German history. The Wartburg Castle is located in Eisenach, Germany, also the birthplace of the famous Lutheran composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. The castle dates back to fortifications starting in the year 1080. Around 1200 the landgrave Hermann I of Thuringia rebuilt the castle so he could host lively performances of poets and musicians. The composer Richard Wagner pulled out from this history the story found in his opera, Tannhauser, during which the Castle held music contests. More notably, WARTBURG CASTLE sheltered Martin Luther from May 1521 to March 1522 while he was sought as “outlaw and heretic”. During this time Luther began translating the Greek New Testament into the common German language so all could read and study scripture. The Castle was made a World Heritage site in 1999. SO, COME AND GET IN ON A LONG TRADITION OF QUALITY!!

FYI: There wil be NO TRU programming on Wednesday nights for children during Lent beginning Feb. 18th. We encourage you to attend the Lenten Evening Vespers with your family. We wil resume Children’s Programming on Wednesday, April 8th at 6:00 p.m.
Acolyte Training Sunday, May 3rd @ 12:15 pm All children 3rd grade and above are encouraged to come and learn how to be an acolyte! Join us after the late service for a 30 minute instruction time. One parent is asked to accompany students. Acolytes light our way into each church service and lead us out so that we may share our light with others.
The 5th and 6th graders are hosting a Bake Sale and Art Auction to raise funds for their summer Mission trip. The Art Auction will run throughout the morning and close at the beginning of the Spring, Sing & Ring Thing and the Bake Sale will take place directly after the concert. Support our kids with yummy treats and beautiful art.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
A NEW PLACE TO CONNECT! We now have a Fellowship Families group on Facebook! This closed group is open to all families of Fellowship Lutheran Church and is intended to be a place where parents can connect and share their journey with one another. We will be posting pictures from church events, reminders for upcoming activities, helpful articles relating to parenting and faith formation. You are invited to ask questions about parenting and faith and anything else you can think of! It takes a village to raise children - so may this become a village of support as you raise your children in faith and love. We are keeping the group “closed” for privacy and safety concerns. If you would like to join the group, please contact Kara for an invitation! Feel free to invite your friends!
