News Notes from Dr. Noël Crosby, Au.D. Lets Loop Englewood ! I am proud and excited to announce that on May 1, our daughter Micah will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in stage management from The University of Central Florida. Post graduation she will be traveling to Arundel, Maine to stage manage the productions of Legally Blonde and A Chorus Line at The Arundel Barn Playhouse. Arundel is located near Kennebunkport, Maine. Micah is very excited about this opportunity. Our daughter’s involvement in live theatre has helped me realize how fortunate it is that we live in an area rich with great theatre. Now I would like to talk about how people can enrich their visits to live theatre. Some theatres, churches and other public venues are now looped. A looping system allows sound coming from a public address system to be received directly to hearing aids that have a T-coil. This technology expands the functionality of the hearing aids and picks up all the sounds coming from the stage. Always look for this symbol. If you don’t see this symbol you should ask if a looping system is present. If there is not a loop present and enough people ask for one, the venue may consider investing in this wonderful technology. If you would like more information about loops and T-coils, please contact us and we will send you information directing you to T-coil and loop resources.

The Fixit Zone …... Spring has arrived and summer is imminent. We love the summer weather; however, the humidity does pose increased challenges to how well your hearing aids can perform. Moisture intrusion is perhaps the number one predator of hearing aids. When you are not wearing your hearing aids, it is important that you store them in a dryer designed to absorb moisture. You should always check the date since you last changed bricks or the expiration date of the dryer itself. There are a number of dryers that we recommend that vary in price and ease of use. We can’t stress enough the importance of maintaining your hearing aids and a regular check up for your ears. Renee does a wonderful job maintaining and troubleshooting hearing aids. Have you ever wondered what Renee does to your hearing aids when she disappears into her “hearing aid fixit area”? I recently spoke with her about what she is doing when she disappears. This a list of what is happening when she enters the “fixit zone: *battery test *listening check *inspect & clean receivers *clean wax guard *inspect & clean mic port *clean & check battery doors *clean & check VC or program button *check shells for cracks *ultra vac cleaning *clean & check ear molds & tubing *replace domes and tubing if needed *final listening check. Everything on this list is important. Everyone should maintain and care for their hearing aids like they maintain and care for their automobiles. Please have a wonderful summer and be kind to your hearing and your hearing aids.

An elderly man had hearing problems for years. He went to a doctor who fit him with hearing aids that allowed him to hear much better. When the man went back to see the doctor a month later, the Doctor said “Your hearing is great, Your family must be pleased that you can hear again.” The man replied, “Oh, I haven’t told my family yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I’ve changed my will three times!”
