Transformed! How God Changes Us! Grace Fellowship Church Shrewsbury October 2, 2016 Pastor Jeff

Message 4 -Being the Church- 5 Disciplines! I’m writing these instructions... so you’ll know how to live in the family of God. That family is the church...” 1 Timothy 3:15 Five Corporate Discipines for Transformation Acts 2:42-47 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. The Fellowship of the Believers They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

“They shared everything with each other... and helped each other when anyone in the group had a need…” Acts 2:44-45 “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other.” 1 Peter 4:10

Home Work Week Four 1. If you’re not already in a small group, prayerfully consider becoming a HOST (Have hospitality, Open Your Home, Serve each other, Turn on the Video!) or start builing a small group team. 2. Make some SMART Goals (see last week) in the area of ABC (Authentic Biblical Community). Ask the Lord to reveal to you how you can move more deeply into relationship with Him by being with others in the 5 corporate disciplines from Acts 2. 3. Daily read the entire Chapter of Acts 2 and ask the Lord in prayer to reveal to you more about yourself and your place in community. Write a letter to God about the 5 diciplines. 4. Test some new relationships by “jumping” into conversations that open yourself to others. Watch to see how they respond and choose to model healthy biblical principles in the way you interact with others. 5. Intentionally choose to love at least one person this week who falls into your “unlovable” catergory. Pray for this person and show them the extravagent love of Jesus by serving them in a way that begs the question “why?” Always be ready to give an answer for the hope that you have! Page 22
