MOUNTAIN LODGE

September 2011

Volume 3, Issue 9

From the Desk of the Secretary of the Board of Directors You May Be Wondering…

As one of the seven elected Directors of the Mountain Lodge HOA I am responsible for several committees that, behind the scenes, do a lot of work on the behalf of our community. These committees are chaired by volunteers who neither get paid nor receive much praise for the hours they spend to help make Mountain Lodge a better place to live. Realize too that they do not do all of this work by themselves. Each committee, particularly the Social & Pool committees sometimes require dozens of additional helpers to get the work done for a specific event. There is never enough help. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about some of the things that my committees and I have been involved in this last year since I was first elected to the Board. Social Committee – Michelle Rosener & Lisa Meylor

Last year - Halloween Party w/ Haunted House & Pancakes with Santa This year - Easter Egg Hunt, Community Garage Sale, Summer Luau & Movie Night Soon to be announced – Fall Garage Sale, Halloween event, Christmas event The Social Committee is also organizing various smaller activities having a specific theme that will appeal to smaller groups of people such as a yoga group and a walking club. One idea they are looking at for the future is a Farmers Market that will offer fresh meat and produce. A new service the Social Committee is providing is a “Teen Helper List” where teens can sign up to provide babysitting, yard mowing, watering, dog walking or a variety of other services. There are currently more than 30 neighborhood kids signed up. Pool & Playground Committee – Brooke Miller (also swim team manager)

Manta Ray Swim Team – This is a huge activity lasting aproximately 2 months and involving over 170 kids in Mountain Lodge. We also host 2 meets with other community teams in the San Antonio area. The pools & playgrounds have seen many changes this year. Here are a few, but not all, of the improvements we have made. • doubled number of swim days and tripled total hours the pools are open • power washed all facilities including restrooms, trash cans, pavilion floor & furniture • changed pool management company (more emphasis on keeping restrooms clean) • increased fenced area & installed 2 park benches at Misty Peak playground We have also made many repairs to pool & playground equipment, electrical (lighting & power) and plumbing facilities that have been neglected over the years. Around early September the installation of the new sun shades to cover the kiddie pools at both Seven Winds and Misty Peak should be close to complete. Some of the things we are discussing for the future include new mulch beds at both playgrounds, additional lighting at deep end of Seven Winds pool, additional playground equipment, resurfacing of Seven Winds pool and changing the key entry system at both pools to an electronic swipe card system. Communication Committee –

This committee’s task is to provide you, the residents of Mountain Lodge, information concerning our community. Dave Lawrence – Newsletter

The newsletter is published free of charge to the HOA as long as the publisher can find advertisers. We could include much more information & articles if there were more ads to support (Continued on Page 3)

MOUNTAIN LODGE From the Secretary - (Continued from Cover Page) adding more pages. If you would like to get involved soliciting local advertisers please let us know. Michele Lopez – [email protected] (email database)

This is how you can reach any Board or Committee member with a question, or complaint (or solution) about things going on in the neighborhood. Michele will route your email to the appropriate person for resolution. This is also where you can send ‘lost & found’ notices for quick distribution to your neighbors. Cindy Schofield – Webmaster

The addition of the new and improved website www. mountainlodgeinfo.com is a big step forward in providing more timely news and information. This is where we can post larger documents, like the CC&R’s, pool rules, the towing policy etc. so you can refer to them at your convenience. Seasonal Decorations – Martha Kauffman

This is a new committee I created this year to handle the important task of decorating the entrances to Mountain Lodge. One complaint we have received over the past few years is that the entrances are all decorated differently and we don’t look like the

same community. The task of this committee is to try and create come continuity to the four (soon to be five) entrances. Since this is a brand new committee, this year will be a real challenge as there was no money budgeted for them. Be patient, it will take time to develop a plan, get enough volunteers to help and to purchase the decorations but I think in the next few years you will see a great improvement. Well, these are my committees and you can see there is a lot going on – even more than I have listed here. I would like to take credit for it all but in reality my biggest accomplishment has been finding some really great folks who are committed to managing these committees. It takes a lot of work to provide these services and there is NEVER enough help. This means that a few really dedicated people are doing more than their share to make these things happen. If you would like to get involved please send an email to mtnlodgeinfo@gmail. com and let us know how you can contribute. Regards, Dave Bollinger ML Board of Directors

MOUNTAIN LODGE ADOPTION COALITION Omar is a sweet, loving boy—and he almost always has a smile on face! While he is extremely active and loves to play sports and be outside, Omar does well academically and is a very polite young man. Omar, who turns ten in November, needs an active and involved family who can provide him with consistent expectations, boundaries and structure. An abundance of support and patience will help Omar achieve success in his promising young life. To find out more about Omar, please contact Grace Lindgren, LMSW, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter, at the Adoption Coalition of Texas (512) 810-0813 or [email protected]. Adopting a child from the foster care system requires little or no cost to the adoptive family and funding may be available to help the adoptive family support the child or sibling group. To learn more about the foster care adoption process, please call the Adoption Coalition of Texas at (512) 301-2825, email [email protected] and visit our website at http://www.adoptioncoalitiontx.org
