discussion questions 1. What songs do you tend to remember when you’re discouraged? 2. How does Daniel’s world parallel ours? 3. It can be easy to lean toward either loving God (by having strong convictions, for instance) or loving people (by showing compassion, for instance). How did Pastor Matthew’s approach to Daniel 1 dismantle this perspective? What could these two look like in harmony in your life? 4. A recurring theme in Daniel 1 is that “God gave.” He gave Judah into exile (vs. 2) and he gave Daniel favor and wisdom (vs. 9, 17). How have you seen God give his faithful love even in the midst of God-given difficulties? 5. Read Romans 8:31–38. What promises does God give in the midst of the circumstances of vs. 35? Message notes are available at tinyurl.com/nhcnotes. Next Week: Daniel 2:1–23, Trust in the Midst of Terror, Pastor Matthew St. John
