discussion questions 1. Can you share of a time when you experienced complete and utter relief because something painful in your life was resolved in a life-giving way? How did you celebrate this relief? 2. Luke 7:50 shows that it’s not the woman’s contrition or act of service that brings forgiveness into her life, but her “faith” has saved her. She received forgiveness of sins by trusting Jesus which prompted her response of love. To what extent have you wrestled with your own sin and willingly asked for and received forgiveness from Jesus Christ? What might keep you from pursuing that forgiveness right now? 3. As you thoughtfully consider the parable of the two debtors (Luke 7:41–43), with whom do you most identify? Why is that and in what way does that influence the extent of your love toward God, yourself and others?

4. The women’s expression of love toward Jesus underscores the intentionality, cost and vulnerability of authentic worship. Process and then share how her actions before Jesus will transform your worship of God. 5. Simon the Pharisee seems to scorn Jesus for associating with the sinful woman and yet his association allowed her to receive from him life-changing forgiveness. With whom ought you associate so as to express the gospel in a meaningful and genuine way? Message notes are available at tinyurl.com/nhcnotes.
