Family Worship Guide Week of October 25th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

GOSPEL After his resurrection, Jesus opened the minds of his disciples to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45). Jesus explained that he himself was the central theme of Scripture. Yet, Thomas, who was absent, did not believe. He was in need of gospel truth. Jesus knew what Thomas needed and reappearing in his presence, showed him his nail- scarred hands. Jesus called Thomas to faith and opened his mind. Thomas immediately responded by addressing Jesus as God. Thomas doubted, but when confronted with the risen Lord who was slain for his sins, Thomas believed. For us, although we have not seen, we have heard the Word and when God opens our minds, we too can believe.

DISCUSS Why were Jesus’ disciples sad? They had hoped Jesus would save Israel, but he had been crucified and now his tomb was empty. When their eyes were opened, who did the disciples realize their traveling companion was? Jesus Why is Thomas called “Doubting Thomas”? He would not believe Jesus had resurrected until he saw Jesus himself. What did Thomas call Jesus when he saw Jesus’ scars? “My Lord and my God!”

PRAY Thank Jesus for being faithful to fulfill his role in the gospel and for revealing this truth to us. Thank Him for meeting our needs, even when we doubt like Thomas. Ask God to open our minds so that we are able to understand his Word and believe its truth. Ask Him to open the minds of those we know who are in need of the truth of the gospel.
