buck shots

Carter Anderson shot his first-ever deer on Nov. 17 in Pike County. The buck Anderson is pictured with is a four-point buck.

Jeeps (Concluded from Page 19) a team that soaks in his message of grit and grind throughout the season. The main area where he thinks his team can make immediate and meaningful adjustments is in the mental approach to games. Losing to a better team happens in basketball, but Chinn doesn’t want his girls doing half of their opponent’s job with silly errors they can control. “A lot of it is right between the ears,” he said. “We make mistakes we shouldn’t make. In the first half, we made a lot of

mistakes that beat ourselves. The careless passes [and] not finding a good shot, that’s something we still have to get better at.” But Chinn not only believes the team will get better in those areas, but also that it will still be the team to beat when it’s time for the sectional tournament. “We all know and believe we have a shot to win sectional down the road,” he said. “We’re still the defending champions and someone has to beat us. We’re going to treat everyday as a day to get better and the end prize is still in reach.”

Kaden Bieker of Celestine poses with his first-ever deer he got on the opening day of gun season in Celestine. The buck was an 8-point, 160-pound deer, and Bieker shot it with his father’s .44 magnum. Buck Shots, which features photos of area hunters and their antlered bucks that were shot locally, runs periodically in The Herald during deer hunting season. To submit a picture of your prize catch, email a high-quality photo to [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, hometown, where the buck was shot and other details about the animal including its rack size and weight. We will run the photos as space permits. Only submit one picture per hunter, per season.
