SFX: Play high-energy Christmas music as kids enter. CG: Theme Slide Host enters wearing Christmas clothes. Opener HOST: “Hey, hey, hey, everybody! Welcome to The Treehouse, the coolest, most awesome, incredible, fun-tastic place ever! My name is [Host’s name] and together, you (point to audience) and I (point to yourself) are going to have the best morning ever! “Does anyone remember what we’re talking about this month? (Hold your hand to your ear.) Yeah, that’s it: generosity. Let’s take a look at this together. CG: Generosity Slide “Generosity is making someone’s day by giving something away. Let’s read that definition together.” HOST and KIDS: “Generosity is making someone’s day by giving something away.” HOST: “How cool is that? And we all have something we can give away. I’m not just talking about money. We can give away our time, we can give away kind words; we can SHARE the things we already have. It’s not hard to be generous and make someone’s day. (Point.) You, you, you, and ALL of you can do something small to make a big difference in someone’s life.” “Take the Power Praise team, for instance. They probably joined the team because they thought it would be fun to be up on stage on Sundays and at VBS. But that “small” thing is something God uses in a big way. He uses their time and talents to touch the hearts of kids, kids like you. It’s actually a really Huge thing. Why don’t you help me welcome them in now.” Power Praise team enters as Host joins the audience.

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Worship SFX: “Hosanna Rock” SFX: “Go Tell It” SFX: “Down to Earth” Historyteller enters as Power Praise exits. SETTING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: “What’s going on, everybody? My name is [Historyteller’s name], and I am so glad you showed up today to [your environment’s name]. Go ahead and give yourself a high five just for being here. Give yourself a high-five. “That’s right! Great job showing up. This is our second week talking about this idea of generosity. We’ve already learned that generosity is one of those Life Apps that’s just fun. It’s fun to make someone’s day, isn’t it? But what if I told you that some people don’t want to be generous? (Beat.) It’s true. And I have a parable that Jesus shared with us about someone who felt that exact way. CG: 252 Story WRAPPING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: “Jesus continued with the parable, and in the end the rich man died without getting a chance to use any of what he stored up. He wasted the chance to be generous with what God allowed him to have. This wasn’t wise at all. See, the rich man had the chance to show generosity with his extra grain and food, but he didn’t. He missed out on his chance to give. In fact, that’s our Bottom Line for today. CG: Bottom Line Slide [Bottom Line] “Don’t miss your chance to give. Read that with me.” HISTORYTELLER and KIDS: [Bottom Line] “Don’t miss your chance to give.” HISTORYTELLER: “God doesn’t want us to miss out on those chances. Our memory verse reminds us of that. Let’s read it together.” CG: Memory Verse Slide “‘Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.’ 1 Timothy 6:18, NIV.” “How about we pray and ask God to help us show generosity and not miss out on a chance to give to others?”

SUNDAY MORNINGS

December 10, 2017, Week 2 Grade: Kinder

Pray HISTORYTELLER: “God, thank You for all the things You’ve given to us. You never miss out on a chance to give, and we don’t want to either. Help us to think of others—of those who don’t have as much as we do. Help us to be generous like You. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.” “Now is the time for you guys to bring up your offering or tithe if you have one to give.” Historyteller exits as Host enters. Closer HOST: “Now that was a powerful parable that Jesus told. When it comes down to it, I don’t want to be like the rich man in the parable. I don’t want to miss out on my chance to give.” “And when I think about it, this really isn’t just about presents at Christmastime. We should be on the lookout for ways we can be generous all throughout the year. Let’s look at our Bottom Line again. CG: Bottom Line Slide [Bottom Line] “Don’t miss your chance to give. We can use the time we have right now to show generosity to others. Sometimes we think we’re too busy, or we’re too nervous about what people might think, and we skip helping or giving to others. But when we really pay attention to the people around us, we’ll discover all sorts of ways we can help. There might be kids in our class who could use some notebook paper or a pencil. Or maybe there are kids on the field who could use help with their throwins. And there’s definitely an adult at home who could use some help around the house. In Small Group, you’ll talk about all sorts of ways you can make sure you don’t miss your chance to give. “Now (pick up a few more gifts), I should hurry up and return these while [Historyteller’s name] is willing to help. If you think THIS is a lot, you should see how many boxes are still outside! Have a great time in Small Group. See you next week!” Dismiss children to their Small Groups. CG: Small Group Slide

The Money Pit Bible: The Money Pit (Parable of the rich man) • Luke 12:13-21 Bottom Line: Don’t miss your chance to give. Memory Verse: “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” 1 Timothy 6:18, NIV Life App: Generosity—Making someone’s day by giving something away Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (10 minutes) Create a safe place to connect and learn how the Bible Truth applies to real life experiences, through interactive activities and discussion questions. 9:00 & 11:30 Don’t Miss Your Chance [Live for God | Application Activity] Made to Play: an activity that encourages learning through following guidelines and working as a group

What You Need: Wrapped gift box, Christmas music What You Do: • Lead kids in a madcap “Hot Potato” / “Duck, Duck, Goose” mashup game. • Guide the kids to sit in a circle. (If you have a small group, make the circle as large as possible by leading kids to hold hands, step back until they’re about an arm’s length apart, and then sit down.) • Give a child the present and lead him to start passing it around the circle while you say the Bottom Line in “Duck, Duck, Goose” fashion, leaving out the word “give”: “Don’t miss your chance to; Don’t Miss your chance to . . .” • When you say, “GIVE,” the child holding the gift jumps up, runs across the center of the circle, gives the present to another child, and then runs back to her seat. • Immediately resume play. • Be sure to vary your pace, timing, and voice to keep interest high. • You can also keep interest high by guiding the kids to move in different ways. They might walk like snowmen, waddle like penguins, march like toy soldiers, or glide like ice skaters. What You Say: “You guys are so generous! You made someone’s day by giving something away. Was the man in today’s Bible Lesson generous? (No!) Why not? (He kept all of his stuff for himself; He didn’t give to others.) Was God happy that the man kept everything for himself? (No!) Why not? (God wants us to share; God wants us to show others that we love them by sharing with them.) “God wants you to give and be willing to share because when you’re generous, you show others that you love them and that they’re more important than your stuff. You also show them that God loves them and cares for them. So this week, look for ways you can be generous. [Bottom Line] Don’t miss your chance to give.”

10:15 Give! [Hear from God | Memory Verse Activity] Made to Move: an activity that increases the oxygen in the brain and taps into the energy in the body

What You Need: Gift-wrap bows; painter’s or masking tape; upbeat Christmas music What You Do: • NOTE: This activity can be environment-wide. • Use masking tape or painter’s tape to divide your area in half. • Divide the group into two teams. • Lead teams to sit on opposite sides of the playing area, with each team equidistant from the dividing line. • Scatter the bows near the line. • When you start the music, give the teams 30-45 seconds to move the bows across the dividing line and onto the other team’s side. • The catch: They may only move the bows by flicking them with their fingers! • The winning team is the one with the fewest bows on its side when time expires. • Play multiple rounds as time remains. End the game when interest is still high. • OPTION: If you have a larger group, consider creating a four-square playing field. Divide the group into teams accordingly. What You Say: “Our verse this month says: Command the rich to do what is good. Tell them to be rich in doing good things. They must give freely. They must be willing to share, 1 Timothy 6:18 (NIrV). You guys did a great job giving freely by trying to give away more bows than you kept. “In our game, giving was fun and easy. But is it always easy to give and share with others? When is it easy to give and share? When is it hard? [Make It Personal] (Tell kids about times when it’s easy and hard for you to share, too.) “God wants you to give freely and be willing to share because when you do, you show others that you love them and that they’re more important than your stuff. So this week, look for ways you can be generous. [Bottom Line] Don’t miss your chance to give.”
