One New Year’s resolution you definitely should keep is updating your Will or Living Trust. Or if you don’t have a Will or Living Trust yet—you should consider creating one. If you don’t create your own plan, the State of Nebraska has one for you. The state’s plan may benefit people who don’t need it, or worse yet, those who would quickly spend your hard-earned resources in frivolous ways. The state’s plan certainly won’t express your desire to support your favorite ministries. To avoid this, take If you don’t some time in the New Year to create or create your own update your Will or Living Trust!

If you don’t yet have a Will or need to update your Will, you can have your attorney add a bequest for Southwood’s Endowment. You can give a specific amount or a percentage of your probate assets through your Will or Living Trust. Estate planning can be complicated so Southwood offers our members an expert consultant in charitable estate planning. Craig Stirtz will meet with you, at no charge, to discuss your wishes for your loved ones and for those ministries you wish to include in your estate plan, including Southwood. It means that our sinful self, with all its evil deeds and desires, should be drowned through daily repentance; and that day after day a new self should arise to live with God in righteousness and purity forever.

3 Tips

for Caring Everyday Listening

Whether you are a parent or a teacher, teaching children to listen, truly listen, is a challenge. Young people are much more geared to respond to technology than to people. However, it’s our responsibility to help them learn active listening strategies which help them with relationships and learning. Here are things to do: ff Teach paraphrasing: Restating in their own words what was said to them conveys they were truly listening and understood correctly. ff Model good listening behavior: Enhance your own listening skills. Help them see you value the skill and what they have to say with no interruptions or distractions. ff Talk less: Some kids tune out after a while. State your point simply, one time.
