TRANSFORMED Emotional Transformation

QPR Training

Emotional health is a key component to our overall health. There are many things that contribute to our emotional health, and it’s important to discover and recognize what makes each of us emotionally healthy. Here are a few tips that help me.

ff Sun., Nov. 6 • 12–2:30 p.m. ff Tue., Nov. 15 • 6–8:30 p.m.

``

Attitude-be positive and look for the best in others-you get what you aim for.

``

Focus on other’s needs and not your own; in serving, we are served and emotionally strengthened. I find God’s rewards to be great when we serve others, and even more rewarding when we serve with our family or friends.

``

Find someone with whom you can laugh and with whom you can cry. Humor is great medicine for the soul. Any of you that know my husband, Larry, know that we have had many laughs together in our 32 years of marriage. We are also able to cry together, over joys and losses, mission trips and faith journeys. I am also surrounded by amazing faith mentors and friends who share my laughter and tears. It’s important to have these people in your life.

Mourning Hope

Volunteer to provide snacks for group meetings. • Mondays, September 12–November 21 Items can be delivered to Southwood by noon on Sunday, or to Mourning Hope between 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on Monday. • Tuesdays, October 18–December 20 Items can be delivered to Southwood by 5pm on Mondays or 1:00–5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Mourning Hope. Sign-up at Southwood Central or online at southwoodlutheran. ivolunteer.com

``

Recognize how you process your feelings. I, like most women, process by words. I recognize that my partner processes differently. When I know I will be too wordy for Larry, I process my feelings with one of my girlfriends. Find that person in your life to help you process.

``

Find a hobby that brings you peace and de-stresses you. As Michelle Smith said last week, mine is being outdoors. I can be mowing my lawn, working in my garden, or even shoveling snow, and my mind always turns to God and his beauty. It is important to get away from the clutter of communication and spend time with God in His great outdoors.

Food Box Program

On the second Saturday of each month, Southwood volunteers deliver food boxes to Meals on Wheels clients. Delivery begins at 9:15 a.m. and takes less than 2 hours. ``

Pray. I have conversations with God all day long. Some more formal prayers or devotions, but most of it just conversation with my very best friend. Pray, pray, pray.

Emotional Health is a constant learning process. With different events, new skills are needed. But, surrounded by the right people in your life, learning how to “do life” together brings great joy.

Caring 3 Tips for Everyday

TRANSFORMED Part 4 of 6

Emotional Transformation Feelings aren’t right or wrong, they just are and they are all normal. God gave us many different emotions to experience this life to the fullest. Use these tips to support the emotional health of those around you: ff Share funny things that happen in the day during family meal time and laugh together! ff Companion someone going through a difficult time by listening and allowing them to express all emotions without judgement. ff Teach labels for feelings. Young children express their emotions through their behaviors. Teach words for feelings and help them learn things to do when they are overwhelmed that are helpful and safe.
