Perhaps the answer is to just take the next step in your faith walk. To change your character in some small way. To get closer to God and discover another way God is working in you and through you. How will you live differently to be a Do-er and not just a Hear-er of His word?

Items can be delivered to the Southwood kitchen by noon on Sunday, or to Mourning Hope between 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on Monday. hrough our faith walk, God’s greatest desire is to have a personal relationship with each one of us. And I thinks it’s fair to say there are times when we feel closer to God than others. As I learned more about Transformed by Rick Warren, I learned that to “conform” means to “fit the mold” and to “transform” means to “change the character or personality of something.” So as you ponder the challenge of becoming Transformed through this small group study, ask yourself Why? Just because everyone else is? Or are you on the other end of Why? I’ve done most of the studies offered, I’m feeling kind of tired of the small group thing. Or, small groups really aren’t my thing so why should I “group up” and do this study?

or the past two years, my wife and I have been in a small group with six other couples that meet in a home on Sunday nights. During this time, I’ve grown spiritually by getting perspective from others in the group. The most recent example was a study on heaven—through those discussions, my views were challenged and expanded. This group has become a trusted community where we support each other during bad times and celebrate good times. When someone has a tough situation in life, we pray as a group for them. One time in particular, we circled up, held hands and prayed for the people involved. This group brings me comfort knowing that we’re with each other through those times.

Listen, Learn and Pray

Tuesday, September 6 • 6:30 p.m. • Fellowship Hall In an effort to grow in our understanding of some of the issues of our day, Southwood will host periodic sessions called: Listen, Learn, Pray. These special sessions feature community leaders speaking about issues confronting our culture, city, country and the world. It will be a time to LISTEN, to LEARN, and to PRAY as we grow in our understanding of the complexities and injustices many face in this world.

• Topic: Diversity, inclusion and race in our community. • Leader: T.J. McDowell, Associate Vice President at Nebraska Wesleyan University. T.J. has facilitated diversity and inclusion presentations to a variety of audiences since 1989. His presentations incorporate stories from his own life to engage and challenge participants’ prejudice and stereotypes about people who are different.
