Above: Southwood-LaCeibita June Mission Team

Honduras Partnership Update Southwood’s Dental/Medical Honduras mission team in June, was the road test for new agreements in our partnership with LaCeibita. I am so happy to report that everything far exceeded expectations. Pastor Manolo and the leaders of his church have worked very hard to assure that visiting teams will be well supported. Renovations were made to an existing home to create a comfortable bunk house. Exceptional people prepared meals, translated, provided transportation and security and housekeeping. Leaders are learning English and spent all week with the team learning ways to facilitate teams of Americans and Hondurans working together. Partnerships are being developed with surrounding villages and churches so that the ministry of LaCeibita can be duplicated. God has done wonderful things in LaCeibita. It is exciting to think of what the future holds for the people of LaCeibita and Southwood as we continue our partnership.

Caring 3 Tips for Every Day

PARENTING Part 1 of 5

Our lives are busy! Busyness can take over our lives and shove our values and beliefs into tiny spaces in our days and weeks. Here are some tips on how to develop family times around God’s word. ff Take time each day to pray together as a family. Encourage your children to make up their own prayers, helping them realize they are just having a conversation with God. Take turns, so all family members—including parents—gain comfort in praying aloud. ff Instead of reading a book before bedtime, retell one of your favorite Bible stories and share with them why it has been a favorite of yours over your lifetime. If you have a free night, as a fun activity make it into a skit and have your family act it out with props! ff Find a way to serve as a family that works for the ages of your children. Whether it’s a weekly or monthly opportunity, it is a way for you to model and serve together. Source: Ann Hibbard. Family Celebrations. NEW! Book Study on Christian Theology

Tuesdays through August 23 • 7:00–8:00 p.m. Southwood Library In the valley of the dry bones, God asks Ezekiel, “Can these bones live?” God gives the answer, raising Jesus from death. A small, slender book—A Theology in Outline: Can These Bones Live?—journeys from question to answer, sharing basic Christian theology explained by the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Jenson, one of Lutheranism’s most consequential theologians. A group will gather, read this book aloud, and discuss it. Contact David Frye, the group’s leader, at 402.450.2072 or [email protected], with questions and to sign up.
