“Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” Have you ever wondered what life would be like without those words? The Apostle Paul did a little “inspired wondering” in the 15th chapter of his First Letter to the Corinthians. In fact, Paul went beyond wondering to state the following as facts of life “if Christ had not been raised.” If Christ has not been raised, our faith in Him is useless. If Christ has not been raised, we are liars. If Christ has not been raised, then the dead are not raised. If Christ has not been raised, then we are still in our sins. If Christ has not been raised, then those who have fallen asleep in Jesus are lost. If Christ has not been raised, we are to be pitied more than anyone else. Having stated all of that, Paul’s next word is a very small, very common word – “But.” And with that rather ordinary word – “But” – Paul goes on to affirm the truth we have again been blessed to celebrate: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Cor. 15:20) And so, we can take all those negative “what if He hadn’t been raised” conclusions and state them as positives! Our faith is precious! Our message is the truth! The dead are raised! Our sins are forgiven! Those who have died in Jesus are in heaven with Jesus! We are blessed! From that point on Paul continues to write about the blessings we have in the risen Christ…the victory over death we have in Christ…and then he concludes this great chapter by giving us the following encouragement: “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:58) A very special opportunity for all of us to literally give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord is coming Sunday, May 7th when we celebrate “Transfer the Blessings” Sunday. Mr. David Priebe will be our guest at a special brunch between the services that day to share with us how we can give ourselves to the work of the Lord through wills and estate planning in a way that continues even after the Lord has called us home. It is humbling to think that we can still be impacting the ministry of Trinity to proclaim the Risen Christ to generations yet to be born through such gifts. Please do come, enjoy a delicious brunch, and learn how you can transfer the many blessings our gracious God has given to you in your lifetime to coming generations so that they too, can live with the same hope in the Risen Christ that we have been given. DCO CORNER “Faith Comes by Hearing Sunday” is May 21st The third weekend in May we remember, give thanks and support those who serve us in the Armed Forces. You can support our troops by giving a gift of $25.00 that will provide a Military BibleStick to one of our troops that requests one from their chaplain. The Military BibleStick is a portable, digital audio player, which comes pre-loaded with the Audio Drama New Testament and selected Psalms. This Audio Bible, which is about the size of a pack of chewing gum, easily fits into a uniform pocket.

Pastoral “Call-Committee” Update Dear Members of Trinity, The Pastoral “Call-Committee” has been meeting for the process of calling a new Pastor. The congregation has been given the opportunity to participate in a “Self-Study,” in order to determine the current Pastoral and ministry needs at Trinity. Thank you to those who took the time to complete a survey. In summary, the “Self-Study” voiced loud and clear, that the primary purpose of Trinity is to “Spread the Word of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.” Furthermore, it emphasized the need for extended opportunities in the areas of youth ministry, music ministry, and small group ministries. The results of the survey indicated that we have a strong congregation, and that God has blessed us in many ways. The members of Trinity would like to continue to reach out to all people, and make disciples of all nations, extending fellowship to all. The “Self-Study” prioritized an emphasis on needs for Trinity. They included: Assimilating new members, development of lay leadership, implementing a singles ministry, promoting children’s ministry, and caring for the sick & shutins. The congregation was also given the opportunity to “Nominate” a Pastor for consideration to preach and lead at Trinity. The committee received seven nominations to consider. The nominations, along with the completed “Self-Study,” will be sent to Pastor Fondow, President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Minnesota North District. He will review the material and send back to the Call-Committee the names of Pastors he would like us to review for consideration. The “Call-Committee” will then meet, confer, and pray, that a Pastoral candidate will be ideal for Trinity. We ask for your continued prayers. Blessings, Jeff Cziok, Call-Committee 3

All congregations in the MN North District are invited to collect New Socks and Undies (men’s, women’s and children’s) and especially for children age 3 to 6th grade for the Orphan Grain Train. Summer Worship Schedule Beginning Sunday, May 28th (Memorial Day Weekend) and continuing through Sunday, September 3rd (Labor Day Weekend) our worship schedule will be two services each Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The goal is to provide worship opportunities which allow families to plan other summer activities without missing worship as well as to informally bring our “first service congregation” together with our “second service congregation” for some fellowship time as the first group leaves worship and the second group arrives for worship. This schedule also enables us to maintain our radio ministry with the 8:00 a.m. service. While we will not offer a midweek opportunity for worship, it is our encouragement when you are away from home for the weekend to enjoy a worship service at one of our congregations in the area where you are vacationing.

Worship and Music Notes Good Shepherd Sunday The Scripture readings for The Fourth Sunday of Easter all reference the Good Shepherd (Jesus) and His relation to the sheep (us). I have always been drawn to the Good Shepherd imagery. I collect Christian religious antique art work and my favorite pieces are Good Shepherd themed. Who cannot associate with the wayward sheep that wanders away and is rescued by the Shepherd? I am comforted by the care of the Shepherd. Our church does not officially call The Fourth Sunday of Easter Good Shepherd Sunday but I still think of it that way. We observe this day on May 7th this year and share the theme of the day with our Transfer the Blessings emphasis. (Listen as Pastor Paul skillfully ties the themes together!) I would like to share excerpts of a message from Fr. Tony Kadavil referring to the roles of shepherd and sheep in our lives and how we can be influenced by both. Let us become good shepherds and good sheep. 1) Let us become good shepherds: Everyone who is entrusted with the care of others is a shepherd. Hence, pastors, parents, teachers, doctors, nurses, government officials, etc. are all shepherds. We become good shepherds by loving those entrusted to us, praying for them, spending our time and talents for their welfare, and guarding them from physical and spiritual dangers. Parents must be especially careful of their duties by giving their children good example through the way they live their Christian lives. 2) Let us be good sheep in the fold of Jesus, the Good Shepherd: Our local church is our sheepfold, and our pastors are our shepherds. Jesus is the High Priest, the pastors are helpers and the parishioners are the sheep. Hence, as the good sheep of the parish, parishioners are expected to a) hear and follow the voice of their shepherds through their sermons, Bible classes, counseling and advice, b) receive the spiritual food given by our pastors by regular participation in the Lord’s Supper, and c) cooperate with our fellow-parishioners in the activities of various councils, ministries and outreach programs. May we learn from this imagery to be good shepherds and sheep! Christ, the good and faithful shepherd, watching all Your lambs and sheep; Christ, the gate that guards the sheepfold, never failing vigil keep. When we stray, Good Shepherd seek us, find us, lift us, bear us home; Lamb of God. Our shepherd, keep us; let us hear Your voice alone. Salt & Pepper Due to medical issues and other circumstances, the Salt and Pepper group will be taking a indefinite break. No future activities are planned at this time. LWML The 75th Anniversary of the LWML will be observed at the national Convention in Albuquerque, NM June 22-25, 2017. keynote speaker, song leader, worship proclaimers, musicians have been announced. Mites in Action Speakers are secured, special events are arranged and the theme “Jesus Christ Above All” will be emphasized. At our April 13th meeting, we explored a topic from the Quarterly. These are truly spiritually uplifting topics. The invitation is always extended for Trinity women to attend meetings on the second Thursday of each month as announced in the bulletin and newsletter. Our May meeting will be on Thursday, May 11th at 1:00pm in the Fellowship Hall.

500th Anniversary Reformation —2017 MN North-South Districts Concordia University St. Paul Reformation 500 Celebration The weekend of October 29, 2017 will have a number of opportunities for members and friends of the LCMS to celebrate the Reformation at Concordia University, St. Paul, including an art exhibit of Reformation-themed pieces, displays of rare books and other resources from the Concordia collection, the play Luther by John Osborne, performed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a continuous showing of one of the Luther films, and other fun and engaging activities. Costs for all of these events will be funded by CSP. The cornerstone event will be the joint worship service at 4:00 p.m. on October 29th co-sponsored by the Minnesota North and Minnesota South Districts and Concordia University. That event will feature a mass adult, youth and children’s choirs, dramatic vignettes performed by the cast of Luther, and a sermon by LCMS President Matthew Harrison.

Big Fish Camp You'll have some great fishing stories to tell after this week! Each year we catch large Northerns, several 4 lb. and better bass, walleye, giant crappies, and a couple of nice Muskies . We expect you to know fishing, be willing to learn more, and bring your own equipment. This summer, the St. Cloud Library is partnering with the Yes Network to be a lunch site for the USDA's Summer Food Service Program. Children up to 18-years-old will be able to receive a free, hot meal Monday -Friday from mid June- mid August. Volunteers are needed to help serve the food, monitor the lunch area, and help with cleanup. Lunches will be served from 11:30-1pm and volunteers are needed from 11:15- 2:00pm. We are looking for a volunteer to come in one time per week for approximately one hour to tie quilt with a small group of residents.
