I've scheduled group premarital counseling sessions on two Saturdays in March. Each year, I do these group sessions for couples getting married during the course of the year, not only because it saves me time meeting individually with each couple, but because couples get a chance to meet one another and learn from each other. And it's a good time for me to help them temper the excitement of wedding day preparations with the challenging realities of marriage. But make no mistake; their decision to marry is a good one . . . for their own financial well-being and for the country's economy (among other reasons). I was reminded of that while reading a recent article in National Review titled, The Best Social Program is Marriage. Here's an excerpt: "Want to help America's economy and yourself at the same time? Then get married," says the author. "Not only are the advantages of raising kids in a stable household well documented, but men who marry, research has shown, are more productive at work, are paid better, and are more likely to be employed than their unmarried counterparts; a fact which makes marriage a far better social program than food stamps, Medicaid, public housing, or even all of them combined." " Yet despite the advantages of connubial life, single-parent families have exploded. Today, more than 40 percent of American children are born out of wedlock. To restore the vigorous economic growth that built American's middle class, we first need to restore the 'pro-growth' institution of marriage." Of course, there are even better

benefits of marriage and stable family life than economic success. Right from the start, God created us as relational beings who need each other. Life in all of its aspects works best when we are committed to each other as husbands and wives, parents and children. Our Family 101 class, currently meeting Sunday mornings at 9:15, is providing some great helps for moms and dads based on the "one another" passages of the New Testament. It's not too late to join this class that meets in the child development center. And that "one another" emphasis also applies to our relationships as brothers and sisters together in God's family. That's what we've been focusing on this Lenten season during our Wednesday worship at 6:00 p.m. Join us for the remaining Wednesdays: March 4 - "Forgive One Another" March 11 - "Honor One Another" March 18 - "Pray for One Another" March 25 - "Love One Another" You might also consider taking the Marriage 101 Online Course. It's free to members of Trinity throughout this calendar year. Get online access and instructions in the church office. Also, for those couples who need an end of winter getaway, consider attending the marriage enrichment weekend retreat March 27-29 at Lutheran Island Camp: The Art of Marriage. Br ochur es and registration forms are also in the church office. And for those looking for a feelgood movie experience on date night, try Old Fashioned; not the dr ink, but the movie which was released Valentine's weekend! Check local listings for show times.

DCO CORNER:
This month I’d like to share with you a little bit about the Girl Scouts and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) as they are now having their meetings in our church. Girl Scouts – Girl Scout “Daisies” are in grades K-1. They meet in the Large Classroom the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. The Girl Scout Mission says that, “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” At a typical meeting the girls learn scouting principles, work on crafts and go on community field trips. If you would like to learn more about becoming a Girl Scout and joining this group please contact Jennifer Bischoff at 248-5828 or at
[email protected]. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) - An NA group meets in our Youth Room every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. NA was founded in 1953, and members hold more than 61,000 meetings weekly in 129 countries. They offer recovery from the effects of addiction through working a twelve-step program, including regular attendance at group meetings. The only requirement for membership in NA is “the desire to stop using”. Narcotics Anonymous, is not meant to imply a focus on any particular drug; NA’s approach makes no distinction between drugs including alcohol. Anyone is welcome and to learn more about NA and their meetings please call Amanda at 260-1774. I believe that opening our church facility for community groups to use is a great way to show hospitality to others in our community. Craig Cooper, DCO
Your Field is Huge! Who can you invite to church? Who can you share Jesus with? Your field is huge. The number of churchless Americans has jumped by one-third in the past 20 years. In the early 1990s, about 2 in 10 U.S. adults were churchless. Ten years later, it was 3 in 10. Today, nearly half of the U.S. population is churchless. Think of family members, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles. Think of neighbors - next door neighbors, elderly persons, and new families in the neighborhood. Think of persons you know through sports or hobbies – people with whom you bowl, golf, or play tennis. Think of people at work – supervisors, employees, secretaries, clients and colleagues you see once in a while. Think of friends with whom you dine out – single friends, parents of your child’s friends, old friends from school. Think of casual associates – your dentist, your doctor, your child’s teacher, persons who belong to clubs and professional groups you attend, sales representatives who call on you frequently, and persons who graduated from the same school as you. Think especially of persons who are undergoing personal life stresses of some kind.
The harvest is plentiful, share your faith and invite others to church. Kelm & Reuter, P.A.

Worship and Music Notes “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.” Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 The Scripture Readings used for the Sundays in Lent will direct our attention to the cost of discipleship and the clearly spell out the path our Lord takes to redeem us as He declares in no uncertain terms what He was going to do to save us. 1st Sunday: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” 2nd Sunday: “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 3rd Sunday: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” 4th Sunday: “The Son of Man came not be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” At the conclusion of the first four Sundays in March, we will begin our journey into Holy Week with the celebration of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, known as “Palm Sunday”. In years past, this Sunday was dedicated to that theme only as the account of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday would be presented in the Thursday and Friday services. However, albeit very sadly, the decline in attendance at those services meant that many would miss everything from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. That is why we now observe “Palm Sunday” in conjunction with “Sunday of the Passion”. Our service on the 5th Sunday in March will begin with the celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem with joyful shouts of “Hosanna” and quickly sobers as the Passion narrative is read in the Holy Gospel. “He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Our midweek Lenten Services will continue with the “one another” theme. How appropriate to learn how to be with one another in our families at home and our family at church as we see the example Christ Himself gives to us. Our Father, who from heaven above Bids all of us to live in love As members of one family… LSB 766:1 Thank you to the faithful choir singers and bell ringers. We are busy with music prep for Sundays and Holy Week. Let me know if you can help! We are still pursuing a Contemporary Music Leader to provide consistent leadership for the 10:30 Services. on Christ’s journey to Jerusalem. During this time we center our worship, our study and meditation, and our prayer on the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. These events give shape and meaning to everything we do, not only in Lent but every day of the year. Lent gives us a time to pause and to focus on all that our Lord Jesus has done for us out of pure and divine love. With Palm Sunday and progressing through Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, we participate in Christ’s suffering and death on the cross. Only then can we feel the awe and joy of his resurrection on that glorious Easter morning. Our lives thus become a reflection of the vastness of God’s divine mercy and love. We are equipped to go forth into the world and witness, forgiven of our sins and filled with joy for all we have received. Let us give thanks to our Lord Jesus, for He is good and His mercy endures forever. The Leadership Team at Trinity has been working on a variety of issues over the past several months. We have devoted time to preparing a balanced budget for 2015, offering a variety of programs emphasizing Christian ministry to our youth and adults, evaluating our current music ministry, and gathering information with regard to the qualities and char-

acteristics Trinity would like to see when “calling” an additional Pastor. Here lies the challenge: At the December 21, 2014 Trinity Voter’s Assembly Meeting, along with the recommendation from the Leadership Team & Finance Team, the decision was made to “stall” the “call-process,” until Trinity was able to financially support the addition of a second Pastor. The Leadership Team is authorizing the establishment of a fund, (which will be set-aside in the memorial funds) specifically designated for the addition of a second Pastor. Our goal is to raise $145,000, or two years of salary and benefits, before the “call” proceeds. However, the committee will still meet periodically, to create a job description and needs assessment for Trinity, based on the survey you completed this summer. We ask that any giving, be “over and beyond your weekly offering,” and that you prayerfully consider giving to this fund with an open heart. We will keep you informed as to the progress we are making. Let us go forth to love and serve the Lord, May God Bless you.

Planned Giving Stories for Christian Stewards
No Ladies Coffee
As is the case with many families, there are times each year when Jim and Sharon focus their attention on gift giving. For years, they have created a gift list that includes family members, friends and loved ones. Last year, they added to the list an over and above gift to their church. Sharon: Years ago, I inherited stock from my grandmother. We held the stock for several years, but decided to sell a portion of it this year. The stock had gone way up in value, and our CPA informed us that we had a capital gain of nearly $120,000. We had always planned on making a charitable gift and the CPA reminded us that if we were to make a gift of this stock before the end of the calendar year, we would receive a charitable deduction on the gifted shares. This deduction will help offset the capital gains tax on the stock we sold. Jim: W e were still holding $80,000in the same highly appreciated stock and didn't intend to sell, primarily because of the substantial capital gains tax we already faced. To sell any more would only increase our tax. A charitable gift planner recommended that we consider an end-of-year gift that would help lower our taxes. He called this a Gift and Sale plan. It meant that part of our stock would be sold and the proceeds would come to us, and part would be gifted to our church. Sharon: T hat's what we decided to do. By giving the $80,000 in stock, we received two benefits. First, we avoided a large capital gains tax on that stock. And then, we received a charitable deduction. The deduction even offset the capital gains for our prior stock sale of $120,000. We are very pleased with the double benefits of our gift. And, we're delighted that we've been able to make a nice charitable contribution. Information and confidential consultation about planned giving options that might benefit you can be had by contacting Mr. David Priebe, retired business attorney and Gift Planning Counselor for the MN North District, LCMS. Lutheran Island Camp 2015 Jamboree We will be hosting a registration jamboree for Summer 2015 Lutheran Island Camp and Christ Serve Ranch registrations on Sunday, March 29. Bill Schultz from camp will be here to help register children and to answer any questions you might have. Children 3 and older can sign up for camp on that day. There are lots of events for you to consider. We will be handing out brochures to families in the two weeks prior to the jamboree. On the day of the jamboree, you can give your registration to Bill. The theme for this year at Lutheran Island Camp and Christ Serve Ranch is “Extraordinary Things.” It is based on Luke 5:26: “And amazement seized them all and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “we have seen extraordinary things today.” The camp will use that theme throughout each camp week to make sure that every child has an extraordinary and wonderful experience. Camp has added some new programs this summer and we hope you’ll take a look at them. They include STEAM Camp, Eco Adventure, Project Impact, and a revitalized Prairie and Woods Camp. Campers in these programs will get to spend time at Christ Serve Ranch where we have added some new activities, exhibits, and experiences. The Classic and Splash Camps are back as are the Adventure Camps like Otter Tail Adventure, Crow Wing River, Boys Survivor and the Voyager Weekend. Horseback camps have been expanded and the camp has added some staff. The biggest challenge you will have this summer is picking out which camp to attend, so why not come to more than one!
