A TIME OF THANKSGIVING Deacon Offertory Prayer Offertory
16:19, 21:43-45, 23:6-13)—The Jericho victory for the Israelites was just the first move in what would become a generation-long chess match in Canaan. The entire book speaks about military battles, setbacks, victories, land settlement, and future challenges. The constants that emerge for the community of God are basic: God delivers on his promises; victories can be messy; and sustained obedience is necessary for sustained victory. In the era of the New Testament church, the battles and enemies are quite different from those of Israel’s conquest, but the Church’s pursuit of spiritual victories while living in the light of God’s promises remains a constant mission still today.
