The shaft will facilitate access into the tunnels for equipment and materials needed for the installation of the railway. Phase 2 – November 2015 – January 2016 •

A crane will lift and lower equipment required to build the shaft

Top section of the shaft will be dug to a depth of 20 metres by excavating ground and installing pre-cast concrete rings.

Materials will be taken to the surface by crane and loaded onto lorries which will exit via Lindsey Street. Charterhouse Square

What we will do •

Late November/early December - works will continue on a 24/7 basis using the sprayed concrete lining method and concurrent ground treatment to minimise the risk of ground movement.

After completion of the construction phase of the shaft, the cross/connecting passages will be built and connected to the eastbound and westbound tunnels. Works will be carried out in accordance to permission and consents granted by the respective Local Authorities. We apologise in advance for any potential disturbance this work may cause. Robust mitigation measures are in place to reduce noise levels.
