Mazzuchelli's Ignite Lights Up the Stage

By- Amalia Strahl

Minute to win it, a Mazzuchelli tradition, was held back due to snow days and two hour delays. It is usually held during Catholic schools week. Sixth graders were very disappointed. We were all looking forward to playing. Some people thought it was cancelled, but they rescheduled it and kept a Mazzuchelli tradition still going. Congratulations to Mrs. Pfohl’s and Mrs. Kirschbaum's class who tied for first place for 6th grade. For 7th grade Mrs. Nessan’s class took the win. Last but not least congratulations meone to Ms. Kayti Decker’s and Mr. Willis’s class. These classes won Minute to Win It in their grade.

Teamwork is the most important thing to these Lego League teams. The two Mazzuchelli teams that advanced to state both agreed that teamwork is one of the most important parts of Lego league. Both Dark Matter and Apollo 10 got the chance to compete at state, and Dark Matter gets to participate the at the Razorback competition at the University of Arkansas in May. Dark Matter has done better than any other Lego League team at Mazzuchelli. All of the six students asked said that they did better than expected. Apollo 10 member, 6th grader, Nick Klapatauskas says, “I didn’t believe it, my dad didn’t either, because he thought we should have lost. So did I.” Students on Dark Matter were super shocked when they received the news that they were going to Razorback. Leah Park explains, “I was just sitting at home when my friend called me and said that we were going to Razorback!” Students on the teams say that competitions are fun, but not very competitive. Dark Matter member, 7th grader, Alex Briggs says, “The most important this core values.” 6th grader, Alison Unsen, of Apollo 10, says, “In the competitions you participate in the project, three robotic rounds, core values, and robot design.” All of these are meant to show teamwork, innovative solutions, and how good you are at coding. Robotics is a huge part of Lego League, and most team members that we asked said they enjoyed robotics. In Lego League you use robotic to make a robot do things that are similar to a real life event, just made out of Legos, and must be solved by a robot. We wish our Lego league team that is advancing good luck, and now that you know more, hopefully you join next year! Lego League is really fun, involves lots of skills and learning new things.

Lights, camera, action! The Mazzuchelli Catholic Middle School musical is now available for tickets. ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ is held at the Grand Opera House and is April twelfth through the fourteenth. There are 74 students involved in this activity. Students in grade 6th through 8th can participate in this wonderful experience. Mazzuchelli's musical groups have put in a great deal of effort into perfecting the show. For example, they have lost many practices due to the weather and more. We have interviewed two students and one teacher. Here are their thoughts on the musical, “You can just be a different kind of person, and you also can do that with friends. It’s just a fun experience,” says 8th grader, Aaron Klusener, who plays Don Lockwood. “I love it so much, it’s my passion. I love singing, I love dancing, and acting,” said Josie Wolbers, who plays Zelda.

Ms. Timmerman, the director, feels the play is a work in progress. “Being at musical rehearsal is almost like being in class except that you have no homework, and we kinda hope it’s more fun than that. It still requires a lot of attention, paying attention to detail, keeping people on task, and not talking to others,” claims Mrs. Timmerman. Everyone has worked really hard this season, and the casts hope everyone enjoys the musical this April. In conclusion, the students and director are enjoying the musical, and it will be a fun show to watch. It shows the effort that the kids have done to put into it. They have told us that it will be an amazing show to watch, and that they seen progress in themselves and in others. We hope you come and see the show!

Snow days By: Alex Shade, Jack Krow, Kyle Powers, and Keaton Besler Eleven snow days to some people may seem like not enough, but others thought that the snow days were too much. Mazzuchelli Middle School students had eleven days of school missed because of snow days. These snow days took place in the Dubuque. We asked some of the students what they did during the snowdays and how they felt about the snow days and school going later. When asked his opinion on all the snowdays Jaxson Oglesby said, “I have a neutral opinion on them. I think it’s good and it’s fun to have snow days, but I think it’s bad to go to far into the summer.”

For what Jaxson did over the snowdays he said, “I stayed inside, played video games, and played inside with with my sisters.” Some of the students over the snow days did home work, played video games, went out side, and played indoor games. One student from Mazzuchelli, Riley Woods, said, “I hung out with friends, played some basketball, and used the extra time to catch up on homework.” Other kids over the break did most of thing that he did, too. This article talked about the eleven day snow break, what the students did, their opinion, and . that is all for this. Hope you learned something.
