Preparation for Worship

As you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship and silence your mobile devices.

Our worship today focuses on a seemingly weak figure — a Lamb. The prophet identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God. Although once slain, this Lamb now lives and stands at the center of heaven’s throne . All of heaven’s inhabitants lavish their praise upon Him. The Lamb’s sacrifice is the subject of their song, and ours, for He was slaughtered to deliver us from eternal peril (Revelation 5:6-14) . As we worship, the Lamb comes and opens the scroll of God’s Word so that we read and preach it profitably. The Lamb is spiritually present with us as we share in His Supper strengthening us by His grace . As we eat and drink, we remember God’s final Passover Lamb (I Corinthians 5:7) and anticipate the Wedding Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6-9) . Lastly, the Lamb draws others to faith in Him as we lift Him up in praise for them to see . Psalm 40:3 says that “many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord .” Therefore, it is only fitting for us to make much of the innocent, perfect, crucified, risen, reigning, and returning Lamb of God.

Praise the Lamb of God

As you enter the Sanctuary, please assume a quiet and respectful attitude of worship. Please silence your mobile devices.

Be ye sure that the Lord He is God; It is He that hath made us and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture .

O go your way into His gates with thanksgiving And into His courts with praise; Be thankful unto Him and speak good of His Name .

For the Lord is gracious; His mercy is everlasting; And His truth endureth from generation to generation .

Allen Gibbs Text from Revelation 4:11, 5:9-10, 13 Splendor and honor and kingly power are Yours by right, O Lord our God, For You created everything that is And by Your will they were created and have their being; And Yours by right, O Lamb that was slain, Or with Your blood You have redeemed for God, From every family, language, people, and nation, A kingdom of priests to serve our God . Come to the Lamb of God WINVITATION TO THE TABLE

All those who have publicly professed their faith and joined a Christian church as a communing member are warmly welcomed to receive communion today. Non-communing worshipers are encouraged to contemplate the love of Jesus Christ during this time. At Second Presbyterian, we encourage our children not to take communion until they have joined the church as communicant members. We do, however, encourage non-communing children to come forward with their parents to receive a blessing. Those wishing to be served communion together as a group or family, please stand together in front of the two serving elders before taking the elements. Gluten free communion bread is available upon request from the elder at the east side of the transverse aisle (opposite from the door leading to the Connector).

WPROFESSION OF FAITH . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead;

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen! CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful Father, we confess that it is still all too easy for us to sacrifice our convictions for convenience, Your standards for status, Your principles for promotion, Your absolutes for our ambition, our souls for shallow and unsatisfying success. How easily we are seduced by power, prestige, pleasure, and possessions — seduced into violating our integrity and harming our fellowship with you. From earth’s fullest bliss we turn to You again, unfulfilled. Forgive our half-hearted devotion and our double-minded spirit. In the name of the Lamb who was led to slaughter we pray. Amen. INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF DIVINE PARDON . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . John 1:29; Revelation 5:9-10 Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.” WORDS OF INSTITUTION PRAYER OF CONSECRATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

SHARING THE BREAD AND THE CUP

For those unable to come forward for communion, please raise your hand and an elder will serve you in your seat. Throughout this time of communion, we invite you to join in singing the hymns below. “Just As I Am” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . WOODWORTH Reference page 501 in the hymnal for music.

Just as I am, without one plea but that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot, To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; sight, riches, healing of the mind, Yea, all I need in Thee to find, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Just as I am, Thy love unknown hath broken every barrier down; Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. “Lamb of God” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Man of Sorrows! what a name for the Son of God, who came Ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Bearing shame and scoffing rude, in my place condemned He stood; Sealed my pardon with His blood. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Guilty, vile, and helpless we; spotless Lamb of God was He; “Full atonement!” can it be? Hallelujah! What a Savior! Lifted up was He to die; “It is finished!” was His cry; Now in Heav’n exalted high. Hallelujah! What a Savior! When He comes, our glorious King, all His ransomed home to bring, Then anew His song we’ll sing: Hallelujah! What a Savior!
