Good Lives (part 2) Introduction In the previous study we saw that the primary motivation for living ‘good lives among the pagans’ was the desire to see God glorified on the day of His visitation (i.e. the day of judgement). In this study we return to 1 Peter 2vs11-3vs7 in order to think through the practical implications of Peter’s teaching in greater detail. We want to answer the question: What does it mean for us to live good lives for the glory of God in our country, in our work situation, in our marriage relationships. The structure of this study will therefore be slightly different from the others. Re-Read 1 Peter 2vs13-3vs7 Think/ Understand / Apply 1. What, in your opinion, are some of the main challenges that we face as we think about submission to the governing authorities in our city and country?

2. In what way does 1 Peter 2vs13-17 address these concerns? What rationale do these verses give for submission to the authorities?

3. Does being submissive to the authorities mean that we should always obey them? Give a reason for your answer.

4. In what way does 1 Peter 2vs18-25 apply to the working environment? What key words / phrases can you note?

5. How should what Peter says here affect our attitudes and actions at work? What exceptions are there, if any?

6. Consider again how Christ’s example should shape our response to unfair treatment? What does this mean in practice?

7. What does it mean for wives to submit to their husbands? What does it not mean? What is the key ingredient to help women live in this way? What are the obstacles?

8. What does it mean for husbands to treat their wives with respect and consideration? How should they view their wives? What does this mean? What does it not mean?
