Life Group Sermon Study

Easter: The Indestructible Life April 19-20, 2014

Break the Ice:

ENGAGE

(The purpose of these first questions is to help your group open up. Please don’t feel like you have to ask each question. Once you feel like the group is ready, move onto the “Inspire” section.)

• What Easter traditions do you have in your family? • What comes to mind when you think about Easter? • What did God teach you during the message this weekend? Did anything in particular stand out? Prayer: Take some time to pray for God to speak to your group through this week’s study. Questions:

IN SP IRE

(Since the group may need time to process each question, don’t let silence scare you. Try to avoid filling the space with unnecessary explanation or moving on from the question too quickly.)

1. Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-2. Aaron said, “You are being saved. Not just one conversion, but hundreds of renewed understandings of the Gospel message that shed new light on the implications of it. This is the work of sanctification. We are all in process to look more like Jesus.” • Have you experienced this? If so, share some of your own renewed understandings of the Gospel, and reference the Scripture passages that have challenged you in new or different ways. • Have you made any life changes in light of those things? If so, what? Read 1 Corinthians 15:3-8. Aaron said, “Paul says that he has covered a ton of very practical subjects in the previous 14 chapters of this letter, but now he says, ‘this is the most important.’” • Where does the message of Jesus fall on your list of important things? Does your life reflect that? If so, how? 2. Read Romans 4:22-25. Aaron said, “The resurrection is such a big deal because rather than dying the death we were meant to die, God became a man—in the person of Jesus Christ—to live a sinless life so that he could pay for my sin-sick heart. In order for this righteous transaction to take place, Jesus had to die the death I was supposed to die.” • How does this statement impact you? • What natural reaction should we, as God’s people, have to this truth? • How are you living your life in worship to God? • Is there anything in your life that directly opposes God? What can you do to change that?

Read 1 Corinthians 5:9-11. Aaron said, “There is no one outside of God’s grasp. He can reach you no matter what by the grace of God.” • Share your testimony of how you can to accept Jesus as your Savior. Did you have any obstacles in the way? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them? 3. Read 1 Corinthians 5:12-19. Aaron said, “You can’t tame Jesus. Don’t domesticate Him. He wasn’t just a good teacher. He wasn’t just a miracle worker. He wasn’t a social activist. He said He was God! Either He is who He said He was or a complete liar (or lunatic) and we should discard it. Here’s the bottom line: If Jesus didn’t walk out of a grave, then you and I aren’t walking out of one either.” • Do you have any questions concerning Jesus and/or the validity of the accounts that Scripture speaks about Him? • What is the hardest thing for you to comprehend when it comes to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection? Application:

EQUIP

(These questions will challenge your group members to apply the study to their daily lives. It is highly important that you go over this section with your group each week for the group study to be a success. Set aside 15 to 20 minutes at the end of your study to review.)

Read 1 Corinthians 15:20-22, John 11:25-26, and Romans 10:9. Aaron stated that we are all sons of Adam until we become children of God through Jesus Christ. • Our faith in Christ is not something that is meant to be private. What are you doing to share your faith with others? What needs to change when it comes to sharing your faith with others? Prayer: Take some time to pray over each group member’s identified action steps and life issues. Equip Your Mind: “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:20-22, ESV)
