Location: National Water Sports Centre (NWSC), Nottingham

Working pattern: To be successful in the role, the post holder will need to be willing to work unsociable hours, including weekends

Role purpose As a sport with 16 Olympic medals our aspirations to deliver more medals at more championship events and to inspire the next generation through our exceptional sport. This is a key role to enable us to build on the progress made in our Olympic Pathways during the last 4 years and continue to build a sustainable infrastructure to support long term international success in Canoe / Kayak maximising the opportunities for our young paddlers. Vital to this are world leading coaches at all levels of the Performance Pathway who can effectively develop and transfer athletes to achieve their sporting potential, further develop the skills for lifelong enjoyment and participation within the sport. Reporting to the Coach Development Manager the post holder will be responsible for implementing the coach education and the development elements highlighted within the England Talent Strategy. They will work closely with Coach Development, the Talent Pathway Managers and their Home Nation Colleagues to ensure there is alignment and partnership working throughout the UK Talent system. This role is funded by the Sport England Talent funding stream. Key responsibilities Responsible for:      

Working with the Coach Development Manager to identify skill gaps, training needs and talent management requirements that support the delivery of the England Strategy Delivery of face to face workshops, training sessions and facilitation of events that deliver targeted learning interventions Support Personal Development plans for designated coaches using coaching and mentoring techniques Innovate, resource and deliver world class education around the ‘What it takes to Win’ (WITTW) Model and on the development of a library of bitesize generic training resources that can be used both internally and externally. Provide tailored support to clubs engaging in the programme, supporting them through a self-assessment process to create a coaching talent development plan and then provision of mentoring and assistance in achieving their goals. Develop the content for a British Canoeing Athlete to Coach accelerated development programme mentoring former World Class Programme and England Talent Pathway athletes and other like-minded individuals committed to developing their performance coaching expertise

Contribute to the overall leadership and delivery of the British Canoeing Talent Programme as a member of the Home Nation Talent Steering Group Work closely with Home Nation Colleagues and the Canoe Sprint/Slalom Talent Pathway Managers to create an integrated and aligned Talent system throughout the UK where a common language can be created Collaborate across teams to generate results Interpersonal skills to interact and influence at all levels

In consultation with the Coach Development Manager implement a coach education programme to align all coaches to the relevant and recommended NGB Awards Design and implement bespoke courses/mentoring to meet the needs of the Talent Coaches progressing towards their career goals. Areas to be covered, Physiology, Psychology to name a few. Provide a programme of NGB Courses to assist in the development of the Club Coaches Embrace the wider aspects and objectives of the England Talent Programme beyond Coach Progression, including developing and implementing initiatives to minimise drop out from the sport and creating a long term sustainable infrastructure for coach development which is not dependant on public funding.

Identify, research and innovate coach development informed by the WITTW model Working closely with the Coach Development Manager, continue to develop the Athlete Curriculum and Community of Practise Site Develop new initiatives to enhance further learning opportunities. Webinars, Skype etc.

4. Planning, Monitoring and Review 4.1 4.2

Engage in regular review sessions, monitoring and implementing new strategies where required to meet the need of the Talent Coaches. Support the Coach Development Manager, British Canoeing Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the annual cycle of planning, implementation and review of the Talent Coaches and their impact on the programme

Attend meetings as deemed necessary by the Coach Development Manager or SLT Members Provide advice to Head Coach/Performance Manager and SLT Members on Coach performance Develop and manage relationships with relevant external partners and stakeholders such as other Olympic/Paralympic Sports, Sport England, EIS Pathway Team Attend Sport England and UK Sport Talent Forums as the Coach Development representatives and work with other NGB’s to benefit from best practise. Liaise with Competition Committees to best support the development of Coaches Work closely with identified clubs to develop their Talented Coaches helping them develop and retain the experience

Actively engage in continual professional development (CPD) to develop knowledge of talent development and general management/leadership competencies, and to keep abreast of relevant policies, procedures and best practise Deliver at a variety of Conferences, Workshops as required by the Coach Development Manager

Knowledge and expertise           

In-depth understanding and experience of the High performance environment including the technical, physical and mental aspects of the sport In-depth understanding and experience of Olympic and Paralympic paddle-sport including the technical, physical and mental aspects of the sport UKCC Coach Educator UKSCA Strength and Conditioning Coach-demonstrate an applied knowledge of physiology Extensive knowledge of Performance Coaching, skill acquisition, decision making. UK Sport Mentor Endorsement or Equivalent Ability to deliver a selection of Psychometric Tests Excellent communication skills and an ability to communicate effectively including tough conversations with a wide range of individuals including athletes, other squad coaches and sports science practitioners. Ability to build strong relationships at all levels and is resilient in tough situations Knowledge and understanding of the needs of talent athletes, coaches and parents Ability to coach and improve Coach performance in any class at all levels of the talent pathway
