EPHESIANS: Week 13 – Restoring Womanhood Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share context of the story [Provide context by sharing the information below.]

In the last portion of Ephesians chapter 5, Paul encourages husbands and wives to walk in marital harmony. Wives are exhorted to respect their husbands. Husbands are commanded to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Paul also reveals that it is the Lord’s desire to present to Himself a holy church, glorious and without blemish. (We will look at the same passage of Scripture from last week. Today’s session looks more at the woman’s perspective.) Tell the story – Ephesians 5:22-33 [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [Jesus is Head of the church and the Savior of the body; Jesus desires to present the church to Himself glorious and without blemish; God gives believers guidelines on how they are to navigate marital relationships; Jesus humbly gave Himself up for the church (Phil 2:5-9); God brings about the transformation in our lives (Matt 4:19); God cherishes and nourishes the body of Christ (v. 29); God unifies us as the body of Christ (v. 30-31); etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [I need to continually surrender to the Lordship of Christ; as a husband, I have a great need for my wife to respect me; when I feel disrespected by my wife, I withhold love from her; I forget that my marriage is a picture of the gospel lived out before others; I need to love and respect my wife just as Christ loves the church; I am a part of a joint body of Christ and therefore play a specific role (v.30); etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. In light of what you’ve learned today, what do you need to do to obey God? Other questions specific to this passage:

1. What does Ephesians 5:25-28 tell us about Christ’s love for the church? What does this mean with regard to the way in which a Christian wife ought to submit to her husband? 2. How can Christians today set a good marital example for the watching world? Assign next week’s passage – Ephesians 6:1-9 [Ask someone to tell the story next week.] Close in Prayer

EPHESIANS: Week 13 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] Prepare well - Pray and know your material Facilitate, don’t teach. Facilitation cultivates discussion; teaching only disperses information. Don’t feel like you have to know all the answers. We are human, and it’s okay for your Grow Group to see that you are limited. Don’t talk more than the rest of the Grow Group. Ask questions to generate discussion, ask people to explain their answers and go into more depth. Allow multiple people to respond, even if the first person gets the “right” answer. Do your best not to interrupt.

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] Discuss our core values with your Grow Group this week. As an extension of our church body, we encourage you to spur one another on in making these a priority in your Grow Group and encouraging those in your group to commit to them at home as well. Abiding in Christ Reaching the Lost Chasing the Strays Connect the Unconnected Identify, Equip, and Release Disciple Making Leaders

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] In order to confidently speak truth into those around you, you must have the Truth cemented in you. Contemplate this verse this week. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 Do you really believe that God is in control of EVERYTHING around you?
