Episcopal Diocese of Texas Happening Rector Application Guidelines & Information Sheet Thank you for taking time to fill out this application and considering the position of Rector. Before you begin, take a moment to pray and ask God to take you through this process. Try to let go of what you want and try to be open to what God wants. Recognize that God has a place for you to minister, whether He wants your role, at this time, to be Rector. Maybe it is going through the application and interview process and maybe it is to be a support through prayer or in action through staffing or attending Lock-In. In any case, it is God’s plan and our prayer for you that you feel a sense of excitement and peace through it all. Make sure that you have the following items included:    

Completed Application (please type or use black ink) - Make sure that you complete the entire application and try and be as thorough as possible so that the committee can get an idea of who you are and why you have been called to this process and position. Picture – Please attach a recent picture of yourself to the top left corner of the application. Letter of Recommendation - Ask your youth minister, parish priest, or an adult that is familiar with your walk with Christ to submit a letter of recommendation. Please have them send it to Kim Rogers at the address listed below. Big Choice – As you know, Happening is youth-led and adult-supported. We ask that you please provide us with three names of people that are currently active in the Happening community, a member of the Episcopal Church, and are over 25 years old. If you don’t have three people in mind, please make note of that on your application and Kim or another steering committee member can assist you with some names as possible candidates. Please note that the steering committee cannot guarantee your choices will be selected as Big. **Note – The April Happening is the last weekend for a graduating senior to be chosen as Rector. Things you should know about being a Happening Rector before applying: (Please read this section completely.) Being a Happening Rector is fun and very rewarding. However, it will require a huge commitment on your part. These are some things you should know before applying. 1. The Happening Steering Committee will interview Happening Rector candidates at the steering committee meeting prior to the Happening in which you will be announced. 2. Happening Rectors must be in their senior year of high school and a member of the Episcopal Church. 3. Being a Happening Rector will place a significant demand on your time. 4. There may be several meetings prior to your Happening that will require travel to meet with your Big, staff members, steering committee members, etc. (6+ hour staff meeting, multiple meetings with your Big, etc.)
