Essentials to a Healthy Life | What Was I thinking? Knowing and living God’s will for our lives hinges on renewing our mind (Romans 12:1-2). When we continually renew our mind, we sniff out the lies of the enemy that keep us from the abundant life God has for us (John 10:10). We must then replace those lies with truth, which requires ongoing confession that deepens and solidifies that truth in our hearts. When we renew our mind and repeatedly confess what is true, we establish a new normal for how we live. WATCH THE VIDEO GET THINGS STARTED When have you had a “what was I thinking” moment? What was the situation, and how did it turn out? What stood out to you the most from the video clip you just watched about renewing the mind? GO DEEPER According to Romans 12:2, what is the result of a renewed mind? From this same verse, what is opposite of having a renewed mind, and why is that significant? In Philippians 4:8, what are we as believers to think upon? How do we identify or know what those things are? MAKE IT PERSONAL A part of renewing the mind involves identifying lies that we have believed or embraced. What possible lies, especially about your physical body and your eating habits, have you believed? What confession of truth do you need to make to replace the lies you have embraced? How challenging is it for you to make that declaration? What is the new normal that God wants you to believe and embrace when it comes to your body and your physical health? PRACTICE IT NOW Take time as a Life Group to purposefully pray for a renewed mind that knows and lives according to the will of God. Ask God for an increased ability to sniff out the lies of the enemy in your thinking and to replace those lies with truth. Ask Him to show you what your new normal should be in the way you think and in the way you care for your physical body. Take time also to pray over and to encourage those who are finding it difficult to release long-held lies and to believe what is true about their physical health.
