WELLNESS SERVICES

Wellness Services provides a caring, inclusive, and respectful environment where students can access free group and individual support to meet academic and life challenges. Mental Health Coordinators offer a safe and confidential environment for students seeking help with personal concerns, and provide group sessions to build coping strategies. The Mindfulness Room in CC260 is available as a quiet space for students to relax during regular office hours.
SKILL CENTRE: TUTORING AND SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION

The Skill Centre is a learning space on the Clearwater Campus where students can gather to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and get new perspectives on learning from our tutorial staff. Tutoring support is available on a drop in basis and is free of charge to registered students. Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides peer facilitated group study sessions to support students to master difficult course content while modelling effective learning skills.
ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES
CC 167 Through group and one-on-one instruction, Accessibility Services supports student success with learning, study and test taking strategies, and adaptive technologies. Students with learning, physical or other challenges may seek help from Learning Strategists to address barriers.

Are you graduating this year from a high school in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo? Do you want FREE TUITION? Achieve an average of 80% or higher to be eligible for Keyano’s Excellence Scholarships.

Only graduates from a high school within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo are eligible. Average is based on five 30 level subjects (Math, English, Social Studies, Science and one other 30 level course), with no individual mark below 70%. A Power Engineer is a technically skilled professional responsible for the safe operation of industrial equipment such as boilers, steam and gas turbines, pumps, and pressure vessels. At Keyano College, you’ll have the opportunity to put your knowledge to work at a job placement which is contingent upon a student’s achievement and industry demand; in two years, graduating students will receive both 4th Class and 3rd Class Power Engineering certifications.

CO-OP
ONLINE Keyano College offers a self-paced Power Engineering program online where you will be provided with an assessment of your achievements through computer generated and marked tests, including supervised exams at the end of each section. Students enrolled in this program are responsible for finding their own work placement to obtain six months of steam time. Alternatively, Keyano offers steam time in our state-of-the-art Power Lab. PROCESS OPERATIONS Designed to meet the oilsands industry’s need for process operators with power engineering certification, this two-year program provides you with practical hands-on education. Students graduate as fully qualified 4th Class and 3rd Class Part A Power Engineers with a Process Operations Certificate. Students will also have the option of taking the 3rd Class Part B through the Power Engineering Online Program.

POWER LAB 200 The 4th Class Power Engineering Certification lab is designed for students who have completed 4th Class Part A & B theory courses from a recognized post-secondary institution, but do not have the six months steam time experience required to become certified as a 4th Class Power Engineer.

OPERATOR Keyano’s six week Heavy Equipment Operator program is designed for students seeking entry level positions in the heavy equipment operator field. This program provides students realistic experience through simulators in the basic and safe operation of six different pieces of equipment.

HAUL TRUCK OPERATOR Our four week Haul Truck Operator program consists of 120 hours of course time, conducted on state-of-the-art simulators that provide students with the necessary skills to operate haul trucks in the oil sands industry. This program also offers the opportunity for work placement among our partner companies.

If you are interested in trades training the first step is to secure an apprenticeship with an employer in the trade of your choice. To become certified journeypersons, apprentices must learn theory and skills, and pass examinations. Requirements for certification, including the content and delivery of technical training, are developed and updated by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.

Developed to equip graduates for an entry level position leading to a career as a tradesperson, Pre-Employment programs provide students a sound academic foundation. Students will complete academic refreshing in the areas of trades related Science, Mathematics, Report Writing and Employability Skills. The remainder of the program will cover the first year of technical training.

ELEMENTARY Our award-winning Bachelor of Education Elementary Degree is offered in collaboration with the University of Alberta and can be completed entirely on the Keyano College campus. Graduates are certified to teach grades K-12 in Alberta. Alternatively, students wishing to earn a Bachelor of Education Secondary may complete one or two years at Keyano and transfer to another post-secondary institution.

At Keyano College you can complete up to two years of study, depending on the program, and a full four-year degree in others. All of the courses offered at Keyano through University Studies are designed to be transferable to the University of Alberta and may be accepted by other institutions.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY English language proficiency is required for many of our programs and courses. Some programs require Spoken Language Proficiency in addition to English Language Proficiency requirements. Your overall language proficiency is sufficient if you have three or more years of full-time education in English, normally including the grade 12 year or higher, in a Canadian school or an approved school outside of Canada with accepted English Language Proficiency. It is recommended that International Students begin the application for admission process at least six months prior to the program start date. The application and document deadline for the fall semester is May 1 and September 1 for the winter semester.
