OVERVIEW

YOUR PATHWAY TO SUCCESS Eynesbury is a school unlike any other in Adelaide. As a specialist senior secondary college, we cater only for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Our learning environment, flexible timetable and one-on-one student support sets Eynesbury apart from other schools. All students share the common goal of university entrance, and it’s because of this maturity we can approach school organisation in ways which are not always possible at larger, comprehensive schools. Eynesbury pioneered this model of pre-university education, and our success has been proven over more than 25 years.

Message from the Eynesbury College Director Welcome to Eynesbury College. We offer students from all over the world the opportunity to study in Adelaide, South Australia, at our Australian high school. Our education style is quite unique; we are a specialist senior secondary college, focused on students in Years 10, 11 and 12. We maintain a strong emphasis on university entrance and education pathways. Our teachers are more than specialists in their fields; they deliver exceptional teaching during lesson time, and extensive individual support to students outside of the classroom. Students are supported in their learning through flexible timetables, small class sizes and through a comprehensive wellbeing

program which ensures students reach their full potential. Over our 25 year history, we continue to be extremely proud of the outstanding results achieved by our students, year after year. Eynesbury graduates regularly achieve tertiary admission ranks that place them in the top 1% of our state, and go on to study at universities around Australia, and across the globe. We look forward to welcoming you to Eynesbury. Peter Millen College Director Eynesbury College

Australian High School education EYNESBURY College Years 10, 11 & 12 2016

Your student life on campus Eynesbury is committed to providing the best possible study environment and school experience for all our students. We understand that our international students, who are often away from home for the first time, will need individual support from caring, friendly staff members. In addition, we provide one-on-one guidance and encouragement to help our students to build the academic and personal skills necessary to cope with university.

The program caters to all students, and includes the following types of events: • barbecues • bush walking • cooking and food activities • cultural events and festivals • interview skills workshops • job search support • movies and games • seasonal activities and markets • sports events, teams and clubs

Student mentor program Every Eynesbury student is assigned a member of a college teaching staff as a mentor. The mentor’s role is to provide individual students with information and support in a range of academic and personal matters. The weekly program commences in Year 10 and continues throughout Years 11 and 12. Topics include best practices for study, motivation, stress and time management, sleep, and appropriate use of technology.

Counselling and guidance In addition to the wide ranging support offered by mentors, Eynesbury have on staff two professionally qualified student counsellors for: • academic counselling – reviewing progress, study issues, time management • pathway counselling – tertiary and career planning, occupations and employment • personal counselling – stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, crisis and trauma.

International Student Coordinator Eynesbury’s International Student Coordinator is the main advisor for international students in need of personal assistance, academic counselling and student support. In relation to the progress of students, the Coordinator will also communicate with parents, teachers, other staff, and where necessary, agents.

Support for parents At Eynesbury, we welcome parents to be regularly involved with their child’s learning and progress at our college. We are committed to working in partnership with parents, family, school staff and counsellors to encourage the student to achieve their

personal best. Parents are invited to contact individual teachers or counsellors, or senior members of staff, at any time to discuss their child’s development.

Orientation

As a senior secondary, pre-university institution, all Eynesbury students share the common goal of university entrance, and we’re proud that our Eynesbury Year 12 student results have consistently placed our students at the top of the state. Last year, more than 15% of our students achieved an ATAR over 99%, placing them in the top 1% of the state, and our students commonly receive merits for perfect results.

Once enrolled, students must attend our orientation program. During orientation students will: • choose and enrol in subjects and create their own timetable • meet teaching staff, International Coordinator, support staff and counsellors • get to know new classmates. In Year 10 every student is new to the college, so friendships are made easily • receive a student ID card and tour the campus facilities.

Student experience program At Eynesbury we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding student experience by integrating events and activities into student life. Our student experience program allows local and international students to enjoy a wide range of social and recreational activities.

• volunteer opportunities

OVERVIEW

Your accommodation Students coming to Adelaide for the first time are encouraged to live in accommodation arranged by Eynesbury on arrival. Finding suitable accommodation in a convenient location is important and may take time. Factors such as budget, length of stay and whether you want to live alone or with others will influence your decision. It is a good idea to begin considering accommodation options well before arrival in Adelaide.

Eynesbury Homeaway aims to provide a ‘home away from home’ for international students just three kilometres from the city centre of Adelaide.

Student apartments

Homeaway offers fully catered accommodation where all meals are provided.

Student apartments are purpose built student accommodation facilities, situated off campus and managed by private companies. These facilities offer fully furnished, self-contained apartments with an opportunity to live alone or share with others in a student community.

These options include homestay, student hostels, student apartments and private rental.

All bedrooms are fully furnished with quality built-ins comprising of a single bed complete with mattress, under bed lockable storage, double wardrobe, study bench with a lockable drawer and chair, bookshelves, a reverse-cycle air‑conditioner and a refrigerator.

Homestay

Student residence

There are two options for homestay:

• Part board from $135–$155 per week* share bathroom/$190 per week* ensuite bathroom

Adelaide boasts a wide range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and tastes.

• Full board from $240 per week* – most meals provided • Part board from $150 per week* – no meals provided – use of kitchen facilities to prepare meals Homestay accommodation provides students the opportunity to live with an Australian family. Students living in this environment are introduced to Australian culture and have the best opportunity of developing language skills by using English on a regular basis in everyday situations. All Eynesbury approved homestay hosts have met selected criteria and come from a diverse range of cultures, backgrounds and family structures. If you are a student under 18-years-old and choose homestay accommodation you will need to remain on full board until you turn 18. Students in Years 10 or 11 must live in Eynesbury approved accommodation regardless of age. Students will be provided with a fully furnished room, shared use of bathroom, laundry and negotiated use of kitchen facilities. Internet and phone costs are not included in the weekly fee; usage and costs need to be negotiated with the homestay host.

Homeaway (under 18 student accommodation)

• Full Board from $240 per week* Student residences usually offer single bedroom accommodation, however, some offer a limited number of twin or double rooms. Bedrooms are fully furnished and students have access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, laundry, lounge, and recreational activities. Most residences are self-catering, however there are some that provide meals. Internet is available for an additional cost at all residences. Gas, electricity and water are generally included in the set fee. Some residences provide a private telephone line in each room with an additional point for computer use. Students are responsible for the costs associated with these services if they choose to connect. Most residences are located in suburban areas of Adelaide so students will need to budget for public transport costs. Residences offer different lengths of stay varying from daily, weekly, three, six or 12 month leases or on a semester or academic year basis. A bond is payable on arrival.

• Full board – $294 per week* Eynesbury has a purpose built, environmentally friendly, student residence available to students who are under 18 years of age.

urbanest.com.au / unilodge.com.au • Part board from $240–$350 per week*

In addition to rent, students may need to budget for additional expenses including: • gas • electricity • phone, and • internet. Student apartments are offered on a six or 12 month fixed term lease agreement.

Private accommodation Finding quality and affordable accommodation in the private rental market can be difficult, particularly when making the transition to a new country and adjusting to the demands of academic programs. It is for this reason that Eynesbury recommends all students live in accommodation arranged by Eynesbury on arrival, as searching for permanent housing in an unfamiliar city can be a time consuming and stressful process. However, renting a house or apartment can be a less expensive option, particularly if sharing with others. You will need to factor in to your budget additional costs such as food, electricity, gas, internet, phone and furniture. It is a good idea to conduct some research into the local private rental market before arriving in Adelaide, and to begin your search for appropriate rental housing shortly after arrival, as the process can take time. Leases are usually for six or 12 months, with a refundable bond of four to six weeks’ rent in advance. It is important to note that these private facilities are not arranged by the Eynesbury Accommodation Office and care should be taken when entering into private contracts.
