LAS VEGAS — Police were called after hundreds of job seekers on Thursday flooded a board meeting for the new SPORTS Oakland RaidNOTEBOOK ers stadium in Las Vegas and turned irate when they discovered they’d been had by a hoax. A flier promoting “pre-job recruitment sign-ups” attracted more than 700 people to a regularly scheduled meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority board. Tensions flared among some attendees after officials explained there were no jobs as of yet on the $1.9 billion project, which has many steps that must be completed before construction can begin. Las Vegas police closed off access to the county building’s parking lots after the size of the crowd ballooned. Board chairman Steve Hill denounced the flyer after the meeting, saying, “If folks were brought to the meeting under a false pretense, I think that’s too bad, that obviously shouldn’t happen.” But he added that the attendance “exhibits a real desire on the part of a number of people in the community to go to work.” The fake flier specifically targeted black men and women and advertised for union and nonunion positions.

Brady finally admitted to club BROOKLINE, Mass. — An exclusive club in the tony town where Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen live has finally admitted the celebrity couple. The Boston Globe reports that The Country Club in Brookline, a leafy and affluent Boston suburb, quietly approved membership for the New England Patriots’ star quarterback and his supermodel wife. Brady and Bundchen own a multimillion-dollar mansion next door. But their application languished for two years while other members debated whether they might be a little too highprofile for the privacy-minded club founded in 1882 on Chestnut Hill. Club amenities include two golf courses, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a curling rink, an Olympicsize pool, skeet shooting, trails for cross-country skiing and a pond for ice skating. Foyt-owned horse in Derby SHELBYVILLE — A.J. Foyt has found some new horsepower at age 82. The four-time Indianapolis 500 winner will be rooting for Colonelsdarktemper in the $500,000 Indiana Derby on Saturday. Foyt owns the 3-year-old colt and a victory would be the biggest of the retired driver’s long career owning racehorses. However, he won’t be at Indiana Grand to watch. Foyt’s racing team is competing at the IndyCar stop in Toronto this weekend. “He’s competitive, that’s what A.J. is,” said Jinks Fires, who trains the colt. “He likes racing, no matter cars or horses. But he understands that if you get beat, you get beat. Pretty much turn the page and go to the next one.” The colt will be ridden by Jon Court, the son-in-law of Fires.
