FALL 2017

Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church

WELCOME Welcome as we enter into a Year of Celebration! I am excited to be back and starting officially as your new Senior Pastor and look forward to journeying deeper with you in faith this year. Even though the Church exists for a variety of reasons, the thing that distinguishes us from other social service organizations is that we are a spiritual community. God’s Spirit lives in each of us and connects us to one another, and we have been given a spiritual purpose -- to participate with God in ushering in God’s Kingdom on this earth. What an empowering and amazing task! To highlight all the ways God is at work in and through you and this local body, the Session has chosen the theme of Celebration. What an appropriate theme, as we have much to be thankful for! Over the next months, we will have the opportunity to hear in worship about the transforming work of God through individual lives, groups, and the many ministries we have here at the church. I also hope this extends beyond our formal time together, as we continue to grow in relationship within and outside our campus walls. Our leadership desires that you find a way to express your gratitude by getting involved in one of our many ministries. So flip through this book and ask God to lead you where He desires you to engage deeper. We have many opportunities here, but sometimes the most organic movements happen in the missing places, so don’t be afraid to create something new! I look forward to seeking God with you and growing together. In celebration, Rev. Karla Shaw 1

DISCOVER COMMUNITY At PLCPC, we are a multi-generational community that embraces growing alongside each other, as we journey to deepen our faith and transform our world. The heart of this church is to care for one another, whether you are a student, first-time parent, looking to retire or home-bound, we want to join you, serve you and be transformed with you. Experience a sense of belonging and fulfillment as you expand your God-given purpose through this authentic community. We live in a culture that is, on the surface, more connected than ever, but lacks meaningful connection. This is why we believe that we have to be intentional in our relationships and commitments. We are meant to do life with others. A church is its people. Membership at PLCPC represents your commitment to the life of this church. As we seek to carry out our mission to serve Christ and affect our community, we invite you to be a part of that story. As a member, you will have the opportunity to fully express your gifts through leadership within the church, exercise the privilege of voting on church matters, in addition to the meaningful growth opportunities and caring community surrounding you.

Membership Process: Attend one, three-hour class over two Sundays. Celebration luncheon will be held in October. September 17: Discover Community, Part One September 24: Discover Community, Part Two All sessions are from 12-1:30 p.m. Lunch and childcare provided. RSVP: www.pointlomachurch.org/register or by turning in an Interest Card in the offering.
