Kids Included FAQs for Children & Life Groups 1. What about food? ! ! ! !

Include children in the “welcoming snacks.” Donʼt feel bad about pulling out additional snacks when children are excused to their activity. Be aware of children with allergies, especially nuts.

2.What ages of children should be included? ! ! ! !

Children under 6 months of age should stay with their parents. Include teens with the children...this allows parents and other adults more freedom during their time of prayer and sharing.

3.What activities should be used? ! ! ! ! ! ! !

It depends on the ages of the children. A selection of lessons and activities that require very little preparation are available through Resources on the Small Group Leaders Cobblestone Group. Also, our childrenʼs !m i n i s t r y staff is available to ! b r a i n s t o r m w i t h y o u f o r specific needs your group may have.

4. Who can care for children? And, how many care givers are needed? ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Adults may care for children, not teens. Use common sense...if the children are all elementary-aged you will probably only need 1 adult and then another “floater” adult who pops in at random times to check on things. If there are mostly children under the age of 5, you may need an adult and a teen, or 2 adults. By providing ample care, the adults and the children will have a more enjoyable, fruitful time together. Per the GCC childcare policy, a teen under the age of 18 should not be left in charge of the children. Teens should only assist.

6. What about diapers and restroom visits? ! ! ! !

If a child is too young to take themselves to the restroom, then the child should be taken to their parents who will take care of their needs. If parents take their children to the restroom prior to the start of ! the group, then this should not be an issue. Parents change all diapers.

7. What about safety? ! !

Set-up for safety. Whenever the Life Group is over, the adult(s) who cared for the children, along with the older children, should set the room back up for the host family.

8. What about discipline? ! ! ! !

Be as pro-active as possible in keeping the children engaged in the activities for the evening. Just being prepared can avert many issues. If a child is being aggressive (hitting, biting, kicking, or throwing things) get the parent. Under no circumstances should a caregiver rough-handle or spank a child.
