February 13, 2019 Dear SJA Families, Kindergarten had fun last week dressing like 100 year olds for the 100th day of school. They enjoyed activities such as counting by 5s and 10s to 100, dancing to 100, and reading many books. They enjoyed their day and we enjoyed their clever outfits! Hopefully the 2 snow days this week were not too disruptive for families. We are now over the 4 snow days that we had in the calendar so we will now have a regular day of school on Friday, March 15th. Please adjust your calendars. I am certainly ready for Spring! As spring approaches, we need to work on our Monarch Butterfly Garden which is now an official Monarch Waystation! Help to support the SJA Monarch Butterfly Garden and order pancakes! The 7th grade and kindergarten will be making and delivering pancakes on Tuesday, March 5th. The STEM committee is asking for at least a $2. Donation to enjoy pancakes which is due by March 1st. (flyer attached) Student Council has extended selling Valentine Candy Grams until Friday, February 15th. They will distribute them on Tuesday, February 19th. Don’t forget your $ to tell someone you care about them! Please see the attached flyer for the St. Joan of Arc Couples Dinner on February 16th. Enjoy liturgy at 5PM, renew your wedding vows and receive a special blessing, and attend a delicious catered dinner with your spouse. Please plan to attend the HSA Designer Purse/Bag Bingo on March 1st, 2019. Hurry and get your tickets for the Bingo as this event is open to all and seats are limited! Volunteers are still needed. If you have any questions about the Bingo prior to this please reach out to Jamie Ayd @ [email protected] or 410-241-6035 We are still looking for parents to be members of the Parent STEM Committee. The mission of the Parent STEM Committee is to “provide enrichment by sharing career and achievements through learning experiences which expand student interest in STEM careers. The committee will actively participate in providing teachers and students with STEM learning opportunities both inside and outside of the school day.” Please email Mrs. Tokarski if interested. [email protected] You can help make the STEM program even better at SJA! St. Joan of Arc will be hosting some Summer camps for children. Attached is a flyer detailing basic information. In order to have these camps, we will need a minimum of 15 attendees per day. The maximum number of children we can serve is 45. Mrs. Sandra Fink will take the lead and there will be additional staff on hand for activities.

Camp Invention is an amazing STEM experience for students. This camp will take place on the week of July 15th19th. Enrollment is limited, so please register if interested as soon as possible. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Tech Team for students in Grades 3 through 8 will allow students to participate in additional and engaging technology projects. Tech Team is available to the first 20 students who register due to limited space and equipment. The permission slip is attached. Did you know that your plastic bags can be recycled into composite decking and railings? The Environmental Club will begin collecting plastic bags in the Trex boxes. Next year SJA hopes to enter the Trex Box contest at the start of the school year and win a piece of Trex furniture! Please bring your plastic bags, etc. to fill the box. (Flyer attached with what you can recycle.) Don’t forget to keep collecting those Box Tops. We are having the St. Patrick’s Day contest and the students could win a prize. Flyer attached. Derby Night on April 6th is fast approaching! It’s the Home & School event that is so much fun and provides a great deal of support for SJA. Join us for a delicious dinner, dancing to a DJ, silent auction, prize wheels and a chance to bet on your favorite horse for a small fee! Wear your favorite Derby hat; it’s a terrific event!
