February 19, 2017

A Note from Pastor Phillips: Thank you for coming to worship with us today. If you are a first-time visitor, I would sure like the opportunity to meet you and welcome you personally. Because I believe in a Sovereign God, I don’t believe anything happens by chance. I believe you were brought here for a purpose. I would love to help you discover that purpose, and to see if there is any way we as a church can bless and minister to you and your family. Please stop by the Resource Center after the service so I can shake your hand. I’d sure count it a privilege. Pastor Harold

Thank you for joining us today for worship. Your presence was a blessing.

PRESIDENTS’ DAY: The church office will be closed tomorrow in observance of Presidents’ Day.

If there is any way that our church can assist you or your family, please contact the office at 410-378-4476.

DEACONS’ MEETING: The next Deacons’ meeting will take place next Sunday, February 26, following the evening service. BAPTISM: We will hold a baptism service next Sunday, February 26, during the evening service. If you would like to be baptized that evening, please contact the church office. LORD’S SUPPER: We will also observe the Lord’s Supper during the evening service next Sunday, February 26. WEDNESDAY HELP NEEDED: We need a few helpers Wednesday evenings for the nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. If you are willing and able, please see Wendy Falko for details. Thank you for your willingness to serve the little ones! STOP: Upon entering the church office, you will notice a new half-door in the reception area. There is a significant amount of confidential and sensitive business and counseling (financial and otherwise) conducted in the church offices. To help protect the privacy of those in our church, we ask everyone to check in with the Receptionist or a secretary prior to proceeding into the heart of the church offices. Thank you in advance for understanding.

If you are interested in learning about church membership, we have a “First Steps” class which meets in the Youth Center (Jr. Church area) at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday. It’s a great place to start!

We pray that you have been blessed, and have found that coming to Pleasant View Baptist Church is truly . . . like coming home.

Setting an example for the next generation

Pleasant View Baptist Church is a smokefree campus. We encourage you to refrain from smoking while on the premises. If you must smoke while here, please do so in your car. If you have any questions, please ask one of our Pastors.

OFFICE HOURS: Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Requests and questions received via e-mail and phone messages after close of business Thursday afternoon will be addressed as soon as possible upon our return to the office. It’s our privilege to serve our Church family. Thank you!

Calling all Moms…. Bring your children for play time while you join us on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for fellowship and fun! We are currently in the study Shepherding a Child’s Heart, which teaches how to speak to the heart of your child. The things our children do and say flow from their hearts. Written for parents with children of any age, this insightful book provides perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child’s heart into the paths of life. We look forward to digging into God’s word and fellowshipping with you! Have a friend or neighbor who is the mom of a small child? Invite her to join you! It’s a great way to introduce them to our Savior. See Heather Adam, Melissa Nahm, Jaclyn Phillips or Whitney Stewart for more information.

The Derby is . . . CHANGED! It’s almost time for our Pinewood Derby!

Saturday, MARCH 18 (note new date) (SNOW DATE APRIL 1) THIS EVENT IS FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS, AND TAKES PLACE IN THE YOUTH CENTER. Breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m. Cars will be weighed in at 9:00 a.m.

Trophies will be presented to the winners! KITS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN THE RESOURCE CENTER. For more information, please call 410-378-4476.

ATTENTION HOMESCHOOLERS We will be holding a homeschool curriculum swap in the Youth Center on Saturday, April 22. Gather up your used (but usable) curriculum, mark it with a fair price and bring it to the church! More details will be made available in the coming weeks, but mark your calendars for the big event! We will also be holding a bake sale that day to help kick off fundraising for Youth Camp. Come hungry and ready to shop! If you would like to help or have questions, see Beverly England.

Our public servants and first responders are facing more dangerous and uncertain times in their occupations these days. While we watch the news and shake our heads at the senseless acts of those who seemingly care only about making headlines, our men and women are out there on the front lines, putting themselves between us and danger. Please pray for those in our church and church family members who are serving as police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. To add a name to this prayer list, please call the office so we can support him/her in prayer. Thank you.

Sunday Evening Nursery Just a reminder to parents of young children that we have a nursery available during our Sunday evening services for children age 5 and younger. Be a voice for the vulnerable.

We were unable to work out logistics to attend this year’s March for Life in Washington, D.C., but are striving to participate in the Maryland March Monday, March 13. There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby.

We ask that no graphic images to brought to the march, and reserve the right to exclude them from the event.

Resource Center We have a Resource Center just full of, well, RESOURCES! There are Bibles, audio books, DVDs, tracts and pamphlets that can provide teaching to help you grow in your walk with the Lord, and wisdom to get you through trials. With all the resources available online, sometimes it is difficult to sort through what is offered, and to know whether the advice and author can be trusted as biblically sound. The items in the Resource Center have been researched to be sure that the teachings are in accordance with scripture. HIGHLIGHT: In preparation for Valentine’s Day, we would like to highlight three books: 

14 Secrets to Better Relationships (Dave Earley) not only provides wisdom for male/female relationship building, but can help you relate to people in all areas of life in a godly way. (Was $4 - NOW $2!)

Starting Your Marriage Right (Dennis & Barbara Rainey) gives advice in building your new marriage on a solid foundation to help it stand the test of time and trials. (Was $11 - NOW $10!)

Staying Close (Dennis & Barbara Rainey) helps couples who have been together many years prevent or correct complacency and drifting apart. (Was $13 - NOW $10!)

Hope for the Separated: Wounded Marriages Can Be Healed! (Gary Chapman) You can become one of the thousands Gary Chapman has helped to realize their hopes. Constructive action will produce self-development during your separation, as well as development in your relationship to God and to your mate. (Was $11 - NOW $7!)

We have a limited number of copies of each book available at these discounted prices. Don’t’ wait!
