WORSHIP WORKSHOPS FOR SECOND GRADERS AND PARENTS OR SPECIAL ADULTS

On March 3 and 10, second graders and their parents or special adults are invited to Worship Workshops from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. The workshops will include music, crafts, and games as second graders learn about congregational worship and develop skills for participation in worship. Groups will rotate to learn through different modalities, so we encourage families to attend both sessions. On March 10 at the 11:00 a.m. service in the Sanctuary, the children will be specially welcomed as worship participants and will receive Bibles and milestones.

SEASONAL CHOIR OPPORTUNITY

In 2016, WMPC commissioned a new setting of the Seven Last Words by composer Michael John Trotta. This spring, seasonal singers are invited to join the Chancel and Sanctuary Choirs to present this work with orchestra and soloists on Good Friday, April 19. Rehearsals begin on February 19. You may choose between Tuesday or Thursday rehearsal days. Tuesday rehearsal time is 7-8:30 p.m. and Thursday is 7:30-9 p.m. in S300. Meditation 101 Have you ever wanted to learn more about meditation? Have you hoped to start your own meditation practice? Come join Associate Pastor Cate Church Norman for this three-session course to learn about the benefits of meditation, to look at the relationship between meditation and prayer and to experience several forms of meditation. Some forms of meditation we’ll explore are using the breath, guided visualization, walking the labyrinth, centering prayer, and the Jesus prayer. This course will meet in three sessions:

Join us on February 17 at 3:00 p.m. in room C200 as we welcome Shelly Bleiweiss. Shelly’s parents were Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust using fake identities as Polish laborers for the Nazis. He will speak about his parents survival story, what it was like growing up as a child of survivors, his emotional journey to Poland and some lessons learned from the Holocaust. FREE FILM PREMIER: SULTAN AND THE SAINT

The Middle East Peace with Justice Committee invites you to a free film premier of Sultan and the Saint on Sunday, February 10. This film is an Emmy nominated documentary about Muslim/ Christian peacemaking, and is an amazing story from the time of the crusades when St. Francis of Assisi reached out across enemy lines and found lasting friendship rather than hatred and intolerance. It will be held at the NC State Witherspoon Theater, 2810 Cates Ave., Raleigh. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Registration is required. FPC & WMPC HAITI SUMMER TRIP INFORMATION MEETING

FPC (First Presbyterian Church) and White Memorial members will be traveling to Haiti from June 19 to June 26, 2019. Our projects will include running the Cite Soleil medical and dental clinic, distributing reading glasses and re-roofing houses. We welcome adults, college students and high school youth/parents who are flexible, willing to work hard and interested in serving the Haitian community. There will also be spiritual and cultural opportunities including attending church and experiencing Haitian culture. To find out more, an informational meeting will be held on February 10 at 12:15 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in the Ed Greer room on the 3rd floor of the Edge Building. OBERLIN ROAD ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Join together with friends along Oberlin Road for our annual Ash Wednesday service. The service will be March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper and have the imposition of ashes. This is a great time of worship and shared faith. Childcare will be available for ages three and younger.

The Art of Yes-And: When Life Doesn’t Go According to Plan! Winter Retreat with MaryAnn McKibben Dana Saturday, March 16 - workshop & Sunday, March 17 - teach and preach

You will not want to miss our Winter Retreat! MaryAnn McKibben Dana will teach us to use the tools of improv to help us navigate life when things don’t go according to our plans. The weekend kicks off with a workshop from 9:00 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, March 16 in Geneva Hall. A cash love offering will be collected for a continental breakfast being served beginning at 9:00 a.m. On Sunday, March 17, MaryAnn will teach an Adult Sunday School Class at 9:30 a.m. in Geneva Hall and preach at the 11:00 a.m. worship service in the Sanctuary. MaryAnn was our Theologian-in Residence in 2016 and we loved her! The Adult Faith Formation committee is excited to welcome MaryAnn back.

George Deaton, Wade Henderson and Timothy Sparks founded Three Triangle Tenors in 2009 with collaborative pianist Thomas Warburton. Their popular performances have been presented from the Piedmont to the coast in central and eastern North Carolina. The three tenors and Thomas Warburton are delighted to present a concert of songs and arias during the inaugural season of the White Memorial Presbyterian Church concert series. Save the date and plan to join us for this exciting concert, Sunday, February 24 at 3 p.m. in the Sanctury. Admission is free.
